Historia
It’s the summer of 2019, and Professor Pi Suleman is a Black man from Memphis with a lot to endure - not only as a Black man in Trump’s America but in his hard-earned career as an adjunct professor. Pi is constantly forced to bite his tongue in the face of one of his tenured colleague’s prejudices and microaggressions. At the same time, he’s being blackmailed by a powerful professor who threatens to claim he has assaulted her, when in fact the truth is just the opposite, trapping him in a he-said-she-said with a white woman that, in this society, Pi knows he will never win.

Wonderfully complex
Revisado: 05-04-23
This novel was so many story threads in one, expertly interwoven. Combined social awareness, modern societal issues layered on personal and community history, within the life of one man. The narration was absolutely perfect and the narrator was butter! This is worth several listens.

Historia
Felicia, Lizbeth Rose's younger half-sister and student at the Grigori school within the capital of the New Holy Russian Empire in San Diego, is caught between secrets and powerful family struggles. As a distant relative to the Tsar, she provides an essential service to him by providing blood transfusions for his hemophilia, and she is thus given rare access and dismissed as if cattle. At the Grigori school she is seen as a charity case, a poor orphan with no prospects and no sign of magical prowess—the latter which Felicia keeps purposefully hidden.

Fun
Revisado: 04-25-23
The story was fun and a nice part of the series from a different point a view. The narrator is not my favorite and listening to the book would have been made better by a better narrator that didn't seem to "dumb down" the characters by poor portrayals. It think that Eva Kaminsky is a much better narrator for this series, but that is just my opinion.

Historia
There was no pattern to the murders, no common thread other than the fact that the victims were all vacationers, robbed of their possessions, and slain in seemingly random crimes. Authorities across three continents and a dozen nations had no idea they were all looking for the same man: Charles Sobhraj, aka "The Serpent". A handsome Frenchman of Vietnamese and Indian origin, Sobhraj targeted backpackers on the "hippie trail" between Europe and South Asia. A master of deception, he used his powerful intellect and considerable sex appeal to lure naive travelers into a life of crime.

book probably better to read than listen
Revisado: 09-16-22
The story and premise of the book was fascinating. However the narration was too flat and was painful to listen to. It took me days to get through this audio book. I needed to listen to others for a break.

Historia
In this highly anticipated new novel, Diana Gabaldon brings back one of her most compelling characters: the unforgettable Lord John Grey - soldier, gentleman, and no mean hand with a blade. Set in the heart of the 18th century, Lord John's world is one of mystery and menace. Diana Gabaldon brilliantly weaves together the strands of Lord John's secret and public lives.

second narrator disappointing
Revisado: 04-27-22
I really like the book and the John Grey series. I was keen on this one that had two points of view. However the second narrator was disappointing. He could not affect a reasonable Scottish accent. it always came closer to his Irish affectation which was marginal. The producers could have put more effort to finding a narrator capable of the relevant accents or just kept with Jeff Woodman solely as his attempts at Jamie Fraser are more palatable to the ear.
story and a glimpse to those years was lovely, however.

Historia
Martha's Vineyard has been home to Victoria Trumbull for most of her 92 years. Its magic, history, and picture-perfect calm are part of her very being. But one evening, Victoria hears something that doesn't quite belong: a scream followed by a splash and a sound of a car speeding away. She investigates and discovers a body on the outgoing tide.

wrong narrator
Revisado: 12-21-21
I agree with the other statements about the very English narrator for a very NorEastern American story. Awful is the gentle way to put it. She varied between English to a half baked Scottish to a strange Irish. The New Zealand wasn't half bad but so brief that it didn't matter. The blind choice in narrator detracts from the story. The story itself was cute but predictable. Had it been in the correct voice it could have been a window into the region and enhanced the story. It is an entertaining story. As it was part of the included audible membership I didn't feel I lost anything. I won't look for more by the author if read by Ms Porter but it was entertaining background to listen to while doing chores.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Monotone narrator
Revisado: 12-07-20
The story was wonderful. The narrator did not do the story or characters justice. The narration was bland and overly deliberate. Chess is a serious subject and I wouldn't expect a frivolous narration however there was an opportunity to really bring the story to life that was missed.
