Historia
In The World for Sale, two leading journalists lift the lid on one of the least scrutinised corners of the economy: the workings of the billionaire commodity traders who buy, hoard and sell the earth's resources. It is the story of how a handful of swashbuckling businessmen became indispensable cogs in global markets: enabling an enormous expansion in international trade and connecting resource-rich countries - no matter how corrupt or war-torn - with the world's financial centres.

A must read for understanding the world
Revisado: 01-15-24
I love this title, have listened to it twice, and recommend to anyone who wants to understand how the world really works. From the rise of the traders and dealings with both savory and unsavory global power players to the transition of these trading companies into some of the largest corporations in the world, this book is FILLED with intriguing stories. The wild trades, dangerous dealings, and unfolding of two of the largest economic events in the last 3 generations (fall of the Soviet Union, rise of China) will have you highly engaged in this title. Enjoy!

Comprehensive Overview
Revisado: 01-15-24
I went into this title with little knowledge on what's been going on in Syria for the last 20 years and events leading up to the war. This presents a pretty comprehensive overview and gave me a solid base understanding of things. I'd have preferred if it went deeper into some of the economic scenarios that allow Syria to operate but at least i can hold competent conversations on the topic. Would recommend this to anyone wanting to actually understand the situation as it's rather complicated with so many actors in the region with conflicting goals, even amongst allies. Enjoy!

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Incredible intertwining of two historic events.
Revisado: 05-10-23
This book was captivating as it wove the tales of the Chicago world’s fair and one of America’s earliest serial killers together. The events of the worlds fair are full of an incredible amount of “firsts” and include many things readers will be surprised to learn. It also details the calculated savagery of a lurking killer and con man operating at the same time.
Bouncing between these two story arcs and detailing a time of American urbanization had me gripped. And the writing is absolutely superb. HIGHLY recommend.

Very new to this, completely sold
Revisado: 05-30-22
I knew from the first few chapters that this book would be something I’d likely return to over and over. Now, having concluded it, I was right and plan on re-listening right away as a constant companion while I consume other books.
There are tons of great takeaways that are simple to implement so can feel yourself and your stress begin to lighten really quickly. That’s been the biggest thing for me: near instant implementations that are making me better all around.
Oh, and there was this really interesting feeling at the beginning: obviously this book was not written specifically for me but it felt that way which made me understand that basically everyone is dealing with some of these things too.
I hope you enjoy this title.

Historia
In his early 20s, Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent, rose to the heights of fame and power in the cutthroat music business. A decade ago, the multi-platinum selling rap artist decided to pivot. His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin's family. The series quickly became "appointment" television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network - the most lucrative deal in premium cable history.

Calm, smart, and revealing
Revisado: 06-25-20
Whenever someone like 50/Curtis’ success came up in conversation, my ex-girlfriend would always say “well, you know, he obviously has good business advisors who do everything.” As with most successful people, it’s not that simple, and actually totally disrespectful of their hustle and drive.
Curtis walks through many of his own stories as well as some classic lessons from business past and present. His take on things align with mine very closely so I found a lot of reinforcement and I suspect a lot of younger listeners of this book will take many lessons. They should!
Curtis’ narration was so calming that it was a pleasure to play and go for a walk.
He also mentions other friends and enemies and walks through the stories and lessons. These were all quite interesting.
I really hope there are more books in the works from Curtis.

Actually honest. Best Audio Book IMO
Revisado: 01-15-20
This is easily the best audio book i've ever experienced. Not just because there are a zillion celebs that lend their voices but because it goes really deep into the history and the little nuances that true fans thirst for. Also, the fess up to a lot of shitty things they did in the past and in one major example, even invite one of the people they wronged to have their own chapter telling their side.
I recommend a lot of books both written and audio but none more than this. And IMO it HAS to be the audio version.

Historia
Since 1929, Hollywood’s brightest stars have flocked to the Chateau Marmont as if it were a second home. An apartment building-turned-hotel, the Chateau has been the backdrop for generations of gossip and folklore: where director Nicholas Ray slept with his 16-year-old Rebel Without a Cause star Natalie Wood; Jim Morrison swung from the balconies; John Belushi suffered a fatal overdose; and Lindsay Lohan got the boot after racking up nearly $50,000 in charges in less than two months. Much of what has happened inside the Chateau’s walls has eluded the public eye - until now.

Totally comprehensive
Revisado: 09-27-19
The research and detail of the Chateau’s history appears to be incredibly thorough. The Hollywood stories are woven throughout but they aren’t overly gratuitous and always push the story of the hotel. Important and noteworthy guests and events are nicely detailed and many should surprise you. (Who knew Howard Hughes was racist?!)
If you love LA and are interested in a tale of the mysterious, infamous Chateau, you will not be disappointed. Also the narrator is great.
Enjoy!

In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.
