Historia
We wait in lines around the block for scoops of cookie dough. We photograph every meal. We visit selfie performance spaces and leave lucrative jobs to become farmers and craft brewers. Why? What are we really hungry for? In Hungry, Eve Turow-Paul provides a guided tour through the stranger corners of today's global food and lifestyle culture. How are 21st-century innovations and pressures are redefining people's needs and desires? How does "foodie" culture, along with other lifestyle trends, provide an answer to our rising rates of stress, loneliness, anxiety, and depression?

What grandma said...
Revisado: 08-13-23
For millennials and later.
It's like David Chang: take grandmas recipe and add wagyu and call it yours.
Take common sense (what grandma said) add stats and call it new age.
If Audible allowed me to return it. I would.

Historia
Millions of Americans have lost confidence in our political and economic system. After years of stagnant wages, volatile job markets, and an unwillingness by those in power to deal with profound threats such as climate change, there is a mounting sense that the system is fixed, serving only those select few with enough money to secure a controlling stake. With the characteristic clarity and passion that has made him a central civil voice, Robert B. Reich shows how wealth and power have interacted to install an elite oligarchy, eviscerate the middle class, and undermine democracy.

One of the most important book of our times.
Revisado: 02-19-23
I love this book. However, besides making me angry, it served no purpose. Why? because I have no money, no wealth, hence no power and therefore, no influence.
Mr Dimon & Co, on the other hand, should, must, read this book. But we all know they never will.
It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. I know it, you know it, and more importantly, they know it, and they've been prepping for it for decades.

Historia
Drawing on her 30 years' experience practicing pediatric and adolescent medicine, teen health expert Dr. Meg Meeker explains why an active father figure is maybe the single most important factor in a young woman's development. In this invaluable guide, Meeker shows how a father can be both counsel and protector for his daughter as she grows into a spiritually and mentally strong young woman.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 01-16-23
I'm a bit torn about this book.
On the one hand it pulls from decades of experience and expertise to offer the reader a hands on how-to guide to strengthening father-daughter relationships.
On the other hand, the information is so basic and obvious that, if you haven't been doing these things; listening, loving, protecting, providing, being present, leading by example, etc., then maybe your issue is deeper than you might realize.
Overall, I can see it being extremely helpful for some that have been searching, but there wasn't much that was earth shattering or new that 'grandma' or the Bible hasn't already taught us... maybe the lesson here is to learn to listen, and actually hear what the other person is trying to say.

Historia
For Rupert Russell, the Brexit vote was only the latest shock in a decade full of them: the unstoppable war in Syria, huge migrant flows into Europe, beheadings in Iraq, children placed in cages on the U.S. border. In Price Wars, he sets out on a worldwide journey to investigate what caused the wave of chaos that consumed the world in the 2010s. Russell travels to Tunisia, Iraq, Venezuela, Ukraine, East Africa, and Central America and discovers that unrest in all these places was triggered by dramatic and mysterious swings in the price of essential commodities.

Brilliantly chilling
Revisado: 06-17-22
This book reminded me the first time I swallowed my pride and put on a pair of readers at CVS. The sudden clarity of the world around me through those +1.25 readers was simultaneously enlightening (I can see!!!) and self deprecating (you moron, you've been squinting at your phone for how long?)
Well worth the read/listen, and Parts III & IV are essential for the times we're in... though to fully appreciate these pages, it'd help if you had a conscience.
Bravo Mr. Russell

Historia
Finite games, like football or chess, have known players, fixed rules, and a clear endpoint. The winners and losers are easily identified. Infinite games, games with no finish line, like business or politics, or life itself, have players who come and go. The rules of an infinite game are changeable, while infinite games have no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers - only ahead and behind. The question is, how do we play to succeed in the game we’re in? In this revelatory new audiobook, Simon Sinek offers a framework for leading with an infinite mindset.

listen to your grandma
Revisado: 01-10-22
Sigh... another first world academia publication to 'prove' with scientific terminologies and medical diagnoses what your grandma has been telling you your entire life;
Be kind
Pick good friends
Smile
Sit straight
Don't slouch
Go outside more
Sun is good for you
Eat well
Sleep
Move...
Oh, and for the 21st century, don't forget to add the obligatory:
... in order to increase productivity.
