When your only critique is “more author,” I think it’s a great of sign. <3
Revisado: 10-27-24
I likely would not have picked this up if it weren’t for a book club - not because I wouldn’t be interested, but because I didn’t know about it!
Very impressed. My only (super nit-picky, hopefully constructive) criticism would be that she more quotations than necessary, which is subjective. I guess… Although her citations always support her narrative, I like Fariha’s words even more. She is so clearly on a journey of self-exploration, and I relate so much to this use of quotations because I do the same. But as she continues to write, I am manifesting a little more dependence on HER words. I think as she grows as a writer, both in skill and recognition, she will go down as one of the Greats. I feel wiser, more engaged in the world, and more capable of creating change within myself and my environment, directly because I read this. I would have my students read this if I were teaching a psychology course. I actively recommend this to anyone I meet who seems open enough to consider. I cannot praise this book enough

Since the publication of the groundbreaking Bad Feminist and Hunger, Roxane Gay has continued to tackle big issues embroiling society—state-sponsored violence and mass shootings, women’s rights post-Dobbs, online disinformation, and the limits of empathy—alongside more individually personalized matters: can I tell my co-worker her perfume makes me sneeze? Is it acceptable to schedule a daily 8 am meeting? In her role as a New York Times opinion section contributor and the publication’s “Work Friend” columnist, she reaches millions of readers with her wise voice and sharp insights.

High expectations were surpassed, as expected
Revisado: 03-16-24
I knew I would just be floored by this and I was, so I can’t recommend enough. Roxane will challenge the way you think, solidify your doubts in the status quo, and inspire you to think bigger for the sake of your soul. This is a great collection of her work whether you are an avid admirer or just discovering her for the first time. I started my Roxane Gay journey with Bad Feminist and have read at least 2 others in print. this is my first audiobook by her and I have no complaints.

Historia
Rainn Wilson’s memoir about growing up geeky and finally finding his place in comedy, faith, and life. For nine seasons Rainn Wilson played Dwight Schrute, everyone's favorite work nemesis and beet farmer. Viewers of The Office fell in love with the character and grew to love the actor who played him even more. Rainn founded a website and media company, SoulPancake, that eventually became a best-selling book of the same name. He also started a hilarious Twitter feed (sample tweet: “I'm not on Facebook” is the new “I don't even own a TV”).

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

I don’t usually read novels, and got this audio book for a book club at work, forced myself to listen. Pretty soon I was cancelling plans to listen to it! Just absolutely immersive and beautiful and tragic… I definitely recommend this book, whether you’re an avid reader or if you barely read and want to get into the habit, it’s just great.

Revisado: 09-12-23
This book was 10/10 from beginning to end. Honestly, not even sure what compelled me to buy this book beyond her recent hosting on SNL - I am a huge SNL fan but too young to have appreciated Molly on the show. Now I’ll be going back and watching that whole season! I had no idea that her life story was so painful and beautiful, and this book made me laugh and cry and reflect on how life should be lived. My hero!!!

Historia
At last, the full story behind Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman's epic romance, including stories, portraits, and the occasional puzzle. How did they do it? They came from completely different families, endured a significant age difference, and were separated by the gulf of several social strata. Megan loved books and art history; Nick loved hammers. But much more than these seemingly unsurpassable obstacles were the values they held in common: respect, decency, the ability to mention genitalia in almost any context, and an abiding obsession with the songs of Tom Waits.
