Cliche dialog, formulaic

Cliche dialog, formulaic
Some ok moments. The reader’s cadence made it worse sometimes, his accents and voices for different people were good at times. But the low deep and gruff voices were goofy.

Historia
Inspector John Rebus has messed up badly this time, so badly that he's been sent to a kind of reform school for damaged cops. While there among the last-chancers known as "resurrection men," he joins a covert mission to gain evidence of a drug heist orchestrated by three of his classmates. But the group has been assigned an unsolved murder that may have resulted from Rebus's own mistake.

Too much dialog
Revisado: 09-07-22
A lot of unnecessary dialog. And characters not very interesting. Story was ok, but largely irrelevant. It was mostly about characters speaking to each other. Reader had a cool accent, but aside from gruff vs normal voice most normal voice characters sounded like the same person. It may be accurate that the author portrays a realistic account of police work. Probably why it’s dull.

Historia
Seventeen years ago, Criminal Inspector Ewert Grens was called to the scene of a brutal crime. A family had been murdered, and the only survivor - and witness - was the five-year-old daughter. The girl was placed in the witness protection program, and the case went cold, but years later, Grens is still haunted by the seemingly random slaying and the little girl who was spared. So when he learns that the apartment where the crime occurred is now the scene of a mysterious break-in, Grens immediately fears that someone is intent on silencing the only witness.

Started out pretty good
Revisado: 11-02-21
By midway the wheels started falling off for me. The trust issues became ridiculous and the Rambo stuff became too much. If the main villains identity wasn’t so obvious, so early I would have been more keen on finishing.

No depth
Revisado: 10-29-21
Characters are bland, 1 dimensional.
Story is mildly interesting. Some of the ways that trouble is avoided was creative. But there characters don’t draw me in. Prince’s family situation was a nice touch, but then it’s pretty much a non factor for the rest of the story.

Historia
On the day she returns to active duty with the Serial Crimes Unit, Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley is called to a crime scene. Dismembered body parts from two victims have been found by the river. The modus operandi bears a striking resemblance to Peter Olivier, the notorious Jigsaw Killer, who has spent the past two years behind bars. When he learns that someone is co-opting his grisly signature - the arrangement of victims’ limbs in puzzle-piece shapes - he decides to take matters into his own hands.

Good reader, almost worth it
Revisado: 10-24-21
The reading was great and kept me going until nearly the end. The story was more of a Hollywood movie script. Hannibal Lecter style. I did like the character development, though the characters did not seem much like detectives, more like office workers. But like real people, which was nice.

Revisado: 08-30-20
Is there something funny about racism in Sweden or it particular to this author, or the characters? Doesn’t translate well. Story is pretty good despite.

Cliche filled
Revisado: 05-13-20
Full of cliches. The narrator was not bad. But hard to listen to nonetheless. Not much character development or story. The weaving together was interesting at times. But ending was a cheezball of coincidence.

Main character tough to listen to
Revisado: 04-09-20
The reader is good, but as the narrator of the story the main character is an a-hole and hard to listen to. Perhaps the story or character become more balanced later in the book, but 3 hours I. I’ve had to put it down.

Historia
David Collins, a British private investigator living in LA, is hired by Geoff Hoffman, a billionaire tech magnate running for the US Senate in California. As his campaign is threatened by rumours of a past scandal, Hoffman tasks David with discovering the truth. And soon David uncovers troubling facts - ones that lead back as far as Hoffman’s Jewish grandfather during World War II. An alternating narrative contrasts the dark, depraved world of Nazi Germany with the corporate, sun-scorched landscapes of Los Angeles in 2019.

Nice story
Revisado: 03-06-20
Great reader, nice story. My only issue is with the use of ‘outdoorsman’ to describe homeless people in LA. Narrator claims that’s a term given to transients in LA. As an LA native, I’ve never heard that term.
