Grayson And Steven Had a Five Star Performance

Let me preface this by saying I was fully invested in Legacy Of Gods; and it is the first DNF for this author.
I started reading with God of Wrath; then went back and read the parents books. I ate them up like potato chips . I bought audio books after reading the book even because .. the narration in these books were chef kiss.

There is one thing with dark romance. There is such a thing as dubious consent done with care.. and I grab those books as if there is no tomorrow when they release. The MMC always ends up falling hard and even the darkest most depraved characters end up simps with a who hurt you I will end them agenda.

This is my first disappointment from this author, and even though I bought the audio because I adore the full cast of narrators even Grayson Owens couldn't save this book, I did not finish.
BDSM should not be written like this, there should be boundaries and safe words and discussion between characters even if it is implied . A questionaire an email a text chat. Something.
Nope Kayden doesn't care enough for Garreth for that. He also doesn't stop when he has been shot with arrows and almost tazed.
No means no. Stop means stop. Garreth clearly stated he didnt wish to give up control, and that was violated. It was also an abuse of power as Kayden was his professor.
After this I may not buy another Rina Kent book, I truly hope she takes these reviews from loyal readers to heart if she does in fact read them. Maybe read how some other authors handle these scenes. ( Shanteil Tessier ,Sara Cate, Sierra Simone S. Massery : all write dub con, and dark topics with care to the characters) Read some non fiction reasearch on BDSM if she wishes her characters to be tied up. Also the excessive use of a pet name becomes gross. Even coming from a great narrator it felt slimy.

I am giving this a 2 only because the Narration was 5 stars.

I wanted more suspense ! There is a perfect slow burn of our podcast host coming to town to find clues to the killer ..one her twin sister was possibly abducted by on their college graduation day ; and the sherrifs little sister was the only survivor of .

You picture Ridley forming the map of the cold case victims all meeting the same M.O.

There are interigations
And someone trying to scare Ridley away when she is getting too close to the truth.

The ending is 👨‍🍳🫦 poetic.

This is my fave book by QB Tyler and when I saw Connor Crais was narrating .. I stayed up till midnight for it to drop to Audible . I hate cheating in books I avoid it; but QB said hold my drink babe Ive got you.. and wrote this amazing story of instant lightning bolt connection between this couple. They met at a wedding the ultimate meet cute : He was the groom's oldest friend. She was the bride's best friend and roommate from college.and that was all she wrote for Marissa and Chris.

This gave me vibes of Dirty Truths by Britnee Nicole : Marissa was bullied by the jealous wife. She had an opportunity to go to Paris and she did , she built her career away from Chris and gave him time to decide what her really wanted. I felt for Marissa walking away when you have invested your whole heart is devistating, but she did it with grace. I dont understand a billionaire who couldnt get a divorce in 2 years, why it took Chris so long to find a way back to Marissa , but the road was worth it.
The SPICE WAS 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and the Daddy kink! It was perfect with Connor Crais .. his voice just gives you chills in the best way.
This is a book i know I will,listen to again.

Lucy Rivers and Will Thorne Perfect Performance

Lucy Rivers and Will Thorne have narrated my fave Fantasy book of 2024 with such passion , such perfection I dont think i will hear a better fantasy book this year , unless of course it is the Ever Queen.

Read this if you like:
- when the villain gets the girl
- morally grey
- sexy pirates
- strong female leads.. Livia was just chef kiss.

I mean this was the first Enemies to lovers in a long time that really lived up to the trope. We had a lot of teeth gritting , stare downs and yelling between this couple. She got to see the man for what he was on his own land after he stole her away.

"Be sure before doing this, love. Do this, and I don’t go back. You’re mine.”
A tremble ran up my arms. Buried in the dark timbre of his voice was a threat. A promise. I hesitated for a breath, then kissed him.
“I said I’m yours.” I trapped his face in my palms. “I’m waiting for you to become mine.”

Erik Bloodsinger was always honest with her as if she were his equal, not some girl he stole.
He treated her like his queen with reverence from day one. But dont mistake his words for weakness .. touch her and die a horrible death. She was his queen .. and he would burn the world down for her. Fae men in 2024 are coming in hot... with the cliff hanger to boot.
Why did he give me Zane Meadows vibes ? Maybe because he is my fave MMC of 2024

In My Fave Thrillers of 2024

I picked this out in February as a Prime First Reads
And the audio came with it and 👨‍🍳💋 narration..full cast.

There is a podcast trope so if you like a true crime slant : for those who loved:

None of This Is True.
You will absolutely be on the edge of your seat to know what happened to Dunia Ahmed.
Was it a crazed stalker who is trying to kill her? Is it her ex boyfriend? Is it a family member from her past because she was shunned by them after her father died?
Dunia sleepwalks..has since "Baba" would visit her at the age of five. Is Baba an uncle who left or was he ever "real"
Is there possibly a sinister spirit causing people to attack her ? The way this story is spun the elements of Fantasy meets horror is truly unique. The author paints a picture much like Sabaa Tahir with black smokey apparitions following Dunia , but with a twist of horror macabre that would appeal to Grady Hendrix fans.
I hope this is not the end of this story , the only reason it was not 5 stars for me..the ending was abrupt, not a cliff hanger or resolved..leaving the reader wanting answers

I will look forward to more from this author Bravo to #mindykaling for bringing this book to press.
This definitely is in my top picks for thriller in 2024.

-🥎 Found Family.. and when I say this series has the best found family of any series...Kai and Isaiah built this family around them..two brothers who only had each other but had so much love to give.
And Isaiah showed Kennedy what it means to feel safe, to feel loved , to be cared about just for who she was.

He gave her space to grow from the girl who was lonely and had no one to a happy thriving woman confident and sure of her worth.
What Isaiah gave her is all women want ..security, safety , respect, and to be cared for..he cooked for her, he brought her food while she was working, he just was the best character I have read this year. and Jacob Morgan just brought him to life.

The mental health rep in this book , how Isaiah feels during storms so well done. These two characters understood each other to the core of their souls.

“And it doesn’t bother you that I can’t really stand you most of the
time?” There’s a playful glint in his brown eyes. “I think that’s what I like most about you.”

This man! he was such a king. From the shoes the night they got married, to all the little things.. how everything was about her. Her needs , her feelings , everything was her speed. I think in an alternate setting Isaiah would have been a pleasure Dom. Because when he finally got her to beg , and the orders came out,whoa.... I sat straight up.

“You’ve never gotten a say in your own life, and the last thing I’m going to do is take that away from you again. Every option is yours, Kenny. Whatever you want to do, I will be your biggest supporter. But I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t allow you the space to fulfill your goals, to live up to everything you’ve worked so hard for.”

Best release of July hands down,

Brit Benson Wrote My Fave Second Chance

Five stars to Jf Harding and Lidia Dornet they made this audio book shine with their performances, And J was the perfect Macon.

Can I just say a man that doesn't touch another woman after he loses the love of his life? Isn't done enough, this man waits four years and probably would have kept on being celebate living his life had Trent ( Lennon' s) father hadn't ended up in the ICU. If he never saw her again, he would have lived his life alone.

There was pining on both sides, And it was work that Macon had to do to win Lennon back.
There was work that Lennon had to do to get him to believe he wasn't abandoned.
Why ? Because of the horrible people who wanted to think they knew best .

“I’m an addict, Astraea. I don’t know how to do anything small. I feel intensely. I want intensely. I crave intensely. For me, if it’s not a healthy obsession, it’s not love.”
There’s that word again. Love.

“Because I was homesick for
you. Because the only decision I’ve ever made in this life that I’m sure of

There’s so much damage between us. So many secrets and broken
promises. I should tell her we can wait. I should reassure her and prove to
her I’m a better man now.
But in moments like this, I’m not sure I am.
I’m always going to be an addict, and she’s always going to be my
greatest temptation. The only addiction worth ruining myself for.

We had to be apart before we could be stronger together.

She’s still my Lennon. I’m still her Macon. We’re at
our truest when we’re together.

This book was just the finest duet I have ever read. I cried, I laughed with the characters, and I hugged my pillow at the end , because the love that was written in these pages was beautifully broken, and deserving of a movie.

My Roman Empire of Second Chances

Last year I read Brit Benson's Between Never and Forever, which was not only my fave Rockstar Romance of 2023 , it was also my fave second chance romance of 2023. From that book I added Brit in my auto read authors short list, her writing is too good for the Romance genre, it has everything. Complex characters and complex themes that will make you never forget a scene , a word and will make you want to read the book again just as you finished it. Her characters don't live easy lives , they don't get their success easily.
They burn hard for it.
I am completely believing Taylor Swift must have read Brit Benson , because when thinking of a song that encompasses each of her FMC's : smart , driven, and heartbreakingly complex :" I Can Do It With A Broken Heart " should be both Samantha's and Lennon's theme song. They smile and keep it moving even when their heart's are breaking.

The Tropes you get with this beautiful book that spans from the time Lennon is 7 to it ending when she turns 17:

Macon's character ; oh how i loved him. His childhood abuse and neglect led to drug abuse. How carefully and with such intent Brit wrote this character. Sam was his constant , his bad influence . But Macon was all she had. Macon was pushed away from Lennon because Claire his sister wanted her all to herself. The only place in highschool Lennon and Macon could relate was art:

He had a whole sketch book of pieces of Lennon. Beautiful gorgeous pieces. But Macon was a renaissance man that also
sat at a pottery wheel watching Lennon.
The angst and chemistry .. these two are the epitome of star crossed.
And like most beautiful high school romances... a Romeo and Juliet
It is ruined by their family. By his sister Claire that I hope Brit writes the most henious death scene for; and Lennon's father who couldnt just tell her the truth after Prom night.
I know about this type of love, my first love was ruined by a so called friend.
A father who just wants to ship her off to "save her" truly ruined the relationship he had with her.
The cliffhanger ending .. chef kiss.

"I can’t keep any promises, apparently.
But I have to try for Lennon."
Macon broke my heart in this book. I cried like it was my love that I lost.

My Fave Book of January 2024 /Best Audiobook 1/24

When I saw that Grayson Owens was narrating this book . I jumped to buy.
When I saw part of this duo was Nicole Fanning I knew iT WAS FIVE STAR.

Mafia, a poisoner who grows her own poisons in her garden, a woman who is the very Essence of a Poison Ivy character. Mafia romance doesn't give us women like this but my two faves of 2024 gave us just that a woman to be feared.
I love that we get Jaxon Pace again in this book, and Grayson played both characters seemlessly
I cant wait for book two!

In My Top Ten Reads of January 2024

I had heard a clip of this book on Instagram, and because it was Sebastian York without knowing anymore about it, I ran and bought and was so glad I did.

I had no idea it was the third in the series, and I may go back and read the two previous books it was a cute rom com, and great play on 90's movie " When You Were Sleeping" Except our FMC also was in a coma and confused when she woke up.

When she wakes up she has two men wanting her affection.
The Dr Mc Dreamy neurologist ( hello Gray's Anatomy) and quite frankly my choice.
and the kids were just precious ,and the name of the dog, Chanandler Bong made me laugh. Such a play on Friends with a dog that truly had a human personality,.

The banter was the true win of this book.
If you love rom coms by Lauren Blakely or Meghan Quinn this book would be for you.
In my top ten books I read in January!
