This book lays out well thought out and logical arguments against the growing anti capitalistic sentiment in the USA. It also does a great job explaining how a wealth gap actually doesn’t matter. Must read!!!

Prior to reading this book I always had a very neutral opinion on President Obama, what he achieved while in office, and what he didn't achieve. Like with any POTUS, I didn't agree with every action or agenda, but I thought overall he probably served the country well. This book has changed my opinion of him, and not for the better. I would love to sit down over a couple of beers and ask him a lot of questions regarding his opinion because I can't tell what is political grand standing and what his actual thoughts are. While he may have been in touch with people prior to his presidency, I think he is completely out of touch with current society and his view is now clouded from accumulating massive amounts of wealth and being detached from society.

Over the years I've read many books or autobiography's from US Presidents, various cabinet officials across the political spectrum, and military leaders. Most of them do a good job of keeping a neutral tone talking about the issues of the day and how to overcome said issue. In contrast, President Obama's book was the most political book I've read from a former US President and it became very clear just how left his views have become or were. I was a little caught off guard by this as I figured it would be a good leadership book. In fact this book was nothing more than a talking piece for the Democratic Party's agenda, again something I was not expecting. The reader is browbeat on all the standard subjects which was nauseating. The amount of bashing of conservatives and republicans took away from the President's story. It felt like every other sentence there would be a snipe about republicans. The message of the book came across as "conservatives ruin this country at every chance" and "only the democrats can fix all of the problems through legislation". Kind of made me understand how the Democratic Party has changed so much in todays current politics. Again, I just was not expecting this.

Additionally, the hypocrisy in the book was also quite shocking. Things he was calling out in the conservative media outlets like Fox News circa 2008 (which I personally despised), doesn't even hold a candle to the lies and misinformation found now on CNN and MSNBC. Same goes for the his views on peoples rights and inequality of wealth in America. He takes a tone of borderline whining in the book about wealth gaps, the poor in America, and how disgusting it is. Multiple times it's asserted that you can only get ahead if you are white. Yet I find it humorous at the same time he is building a massive beachfront compound in Waimanalo HI right next to where there are massive homeless camps. Same goes with the amount of racism and sexism he talks about. I guess by now in my life I should have met a few of these people, but maybe that's my unconscious biases not recognizing it. Overall it is as simple as this - there is a tone of moral superiority coming through the entire time. If you do not agree, then you are wrong.

That Said - When not being hit over the head with the politics of the book, I did enjoy the story of his childhood, the rise into politics, and the more human side of being the POTUS and his family. I enjoyed any time he discussed building his team, or various situations where he was using leadership to solve an issue. I also enjoyed the foreign policy aspect of the book even if I was not happy with a lot of his administrations actions on our foreign policy.

Would I still recommend this book? Absolutely.

A must read for all Americans and great insight about what happened during our election. Mr. Comey seems to be a great leader and American. We need more like him within our Government.

Admiral Stavridis truly lays out the importance of Sea Power for every body of water. It is both thought provoking and informative. Highly recommend.
