We lead our spiritual lives in relationship with others. A faithful community gives us opportunities for worship, sharing burdens, confessing faults, offering forgiveness, and celebrating life. Wherever he went, Henri Nouwen created such communities, and within them, he offered spiritual direction. Available as an audiobook for the first time ever, Spiritual Direction: Wisdom for the Long Walk of Faith is part of “The Nouwen Trilogy.” These convenient audio sessions let you adopt Nouwen as your personal spiritual director.

Spiritual lives need direction
Revisado: 01-26-24
For those committed to serving God, this not only tells how to receive or give spiritual direction but also tells the importance of being present with God through spiritual guidance. Excellent.

Historia
Heavily tattooed and foul-mouthed, Nadia Bolz-Weber, a former stand-up comic, sure as hell didn't consider herself to be religious-leader material - until the day she ended up leading a friend's funeral in a smoky downtown comedy club. Surrounded by fellow alcoholics, depressives, and cynics, she realized: These were her people. Maybe she was meant to be their pastor. Using life stories, Nadia uses humorous narrative and poignant honesty to portray a woman who is both deeply faithful and deeply flawed, giving hope to the rest of us along the way.

What made the experience of listening to Pastrix the most enjoyable?
Nadia gets Jesus, and she helps me get Jesus more. I appreciate her honesty, and her willingness to share herself with us. She has given me ways to explain Jesus to some who may think they are too far gone. If rough language offends you, please tolerate it because the message is a gold mine.

Historia
We all have ideas that we tell ourselves about God and how he works in our lives. Some are true--but many are false. James Bryan Smith believes those thoughts determine not only who we are, but how we live. In fact, Smith declares, the most important thing about a person is what they think about God. The path to spiritual transformation begins here.

Scripturally sound, transformative and joyful
Revisado: 01-20-16
If you could sum up The Good and Beautiful God in three words, what would they be?
Working from Jesus' point of view as found in scripture, Smith presents religious narratives that we are all too familiar with, and measures them against what Jesus actually said and did. This book is for groups and individuals who want to not only follow Jesus but want to see themselves and others as people "in whom Christ dwells." The "soul training" exercises challenge and help the readers become more Christ-like. I cannot imagine anyone not desiring to continue the journey with the next two books: The Good and Beautiful Life, and The Good and Beautiful Community. This Apprentice Series trio could transform our churches into Kingdom-of-Heaven disciple-making beacons of hope, love and light for the world.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Good and Beautiful God?
Smith's explanation of the cross and salvation finally helped me understand why the cross is necessary.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
What the Bible REALLY says about God.
Any additional comments?
Smith's mentors, Richard Foster and Dallas Willard along with the other influences in his life make Smith the perfect author for this book. I believe that this book is God-inspired, and it is relevant to today's North American Christians who have received a skewed view of God through centuries of traditions that have moved us away from what scripture really says about God.

Historia
Anne Lamott is known for her perceptive and funny writings about spirituality. Listeners of all ages have followed her faith journey through decades of trial and error (sometimes more error than Annie wanted), and in her new book, she has coalesced all she knows about prayer to three essentials: Help, Thanks, and Wow. It is these three prayers - asking for assistance from a higher power, appreciating all that we have and all that is good, and feeling awe at the beauty of the world around us - that can get us through the day and can show us the way forward.

As someone familiar with prayer it had no new information
Revisado: 07-21-15
This book would be better suited for those exploring prayer as a beginner. I didn't care for the performance although the author read it. Her voice detracted from the hearing.

Historia
It is 1998, and Richard Stearns’s heart is breaking as he sits in a mud hut and listens to the story of an orphaned child in Rakai, Uganda. His journey to this place took more than a long flight from the United States to Africa. It took answering God’s call on his life, a call that hurtled him out of his corner office at Lenox - America’s finest tableware company - to this humble corner of Uganda. This is a story of how a corporate CEO faced his struggle to obey God, whatever the cost, and his passionate call for Christians to change the world by actively living out their faith.

Great life lessons put together in a fictional story. Read by the author, you hear how he imagines the character's voices sounded. It's worth the time.

Historia
In 1994, Driven to Distraction sparked a revolution in our understanding of attention deficit disorder. Now a second revolution is under way in the approach to ADD, and the news is great. Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated.

Revisado: 03-14-15
Written in the early 2000s, there may be advances in medication, but the rest of the book and advice about how to live well with ADD is helpful. It is also helpful did the author has ADD himself. The book also gives hope to those who live with ADD and to those who have ADD people in their lives.

Historia
In Making Sense of the Bible, Adam Hamilton invites us into an honest conversation about the Bible. The book begins with foundational questions such as: How and when was the Bible written? Who decided which books made it into the scriptures and why? How literally must we read it? And, is the Bible ever wrong? From there, Hamilton considers the real questions people frequently ask that continue to divide Christians and denominations alike

Worth reading and sharing
Revisado: 03-05-15
Based on Scripture, verses history, and holy inspiration, this book is one of the most well articulated explanations of issues surrounding the texts of the Bible. It is clear that Hamilton values the Bible, while understanding its clear purpose of drawing us closer to God, and bringing new life and purpose to our lives.
