Historia
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

This should be clearly listed as Christian Fiction
Revisado: 11-09-22
I had no idea this was christian fiction. The first couple of mentions about god were ok but then it ramped-up and became annoying.
I abandoned the book.

The reader.
Revisado: 05-30-20
I read the reviews about the reader before I bought the book but decided to try it anyway. Holy cow. It was so distracting because soon, I was obsessed with her pronunciation of every single word. THAT is what I listened to, not the story. There are many, many more words than the ones listed by other reviewers. It's really hard to get passed. If I were the author, I would ask Simon and Schuster to produce this again with another reader.
The story itself was ok. I had to suspend disbelief in the second half of the book while the characters got involved with a scenario that they shouldn't have. It was very silly. Then, everything was solved so suddenly for no apparent reason. (Hmmm. Maybe I was so distracted by the reader that I missed it.) The ending was wrapped up and rushed.

This is the 3rd in the series and Island hasn't learned anything. For someone so smart she is really stupid.
Bad decision after bad decision makes me decide not to finish this book and give up on the series.

Revisado: 03-17-14
The reader is so obnoxious that I can't listen anymore.
Her voice for the main character is fine but her voices all the supporting characters are ridiculous.
I'm wondering if the book is something I would like if I read it myself?

Kept my attention but left me unsatisfied

3.75 stars
There are multiple readers for the audio version of this book. All did a great job except the voice of the midwife. UHG! If she would have been the only reader, I wouldn't have finished listening.
This was an interesting story with lots of little mysteries. It kept my attention and I enjoyed it.
But, in the end, there were too many unanswered questions and I was left feeling unsatisfied.

As "Mrs. Ro Grandee" she's trapped in a marriage that's thick with love and sick with abuse. Her true self has been bound in the chains of marital bliss in rural Texas, letting "Ro" make eggs, iron shirts, and take her punches.

love this author
Revisado: 10-11-13
The author reads her own book. Excellent job!
The story in this book over-laps the time frame in "Gods in Alabama" (also recommended)
Love the way J.J. writes! Her descriptions and metaphors are razor sharp.
Pure chick lit.

disappointed
Revisado: 10-11-13
Given the content of this memoir, I should have been emotionally moved.
I wasn't. This book barely skimmed the surface of a very troubling childhood in the foster care system.
The only emotions I felt were anger at the clearly broken system and the states that perpetuate this treatment of children.
I appreciated the authors honesty while recalling her attitude of distrust but she ended up coming across as snotty and ungracious. The delivery was kind of stiff and flat. It's too bad; this story could be so much more.

A woman finds herself
Revisado: 10-11-13
a smidge under 4 stars
I actually enjoyed this book despite the cheating, which i usually won't read.
Cheating leaves me nauseous.
I like a story about women who "find themselves" and I was proud of Sylvie
for doing just that.
However, her decisions in the end left me disappointed and unsatisfied.
