Historia
In the not-so-distant future, the forecasted "death of print" has become a reality. Anana Johnson works with her father, Doug, at the North American Dictionary of the English Language, where he is hard at work on the last edition that will ever be printed. Doug is a staunchly anti-meme, anti-tech intellectual who fondly remembers the days when people used e-mail to communicate - or even actually spoke to one another. One evening, Doug disappears, leaving a single written clue: ALICE - a code word he and Anana devised to signal if one of them ever fell into harm's way.

Realistic science fiction, great story, good pacing, great narration
Revisado: 11-25-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The narration and plot pacing were really good. The only reason I am giving four stars for some of that things is because there were some inconsistent pronunciations, especially of Hermes. Also, Tavia Gilbert’s audio sounded weird in spots. I listened to this book on an echo studio in my living room as I was cleaning my apartment. But I noticed that throughout the book there were times where The quality of the audio changed. It remind me of the 80s when I used to record cassettes or friends would read books to me on cassette because I am blind. If they wanted to record over a mistake they made, you could sometimes here changes and audio. That happened consistently in this book during Tavia Gilbert‘s narration. I was surprised that audio that sounded that way made it past into what we now have to listen to. Her narration was great. I thought she was chosen and narrated the part of Anana really well. It was just the audio quality that was really a bummer.

Mystery and magic

This story follows several characters. On the surface the plots look fairly predictable, but as you go through the story, there are some interesting twists. I thought the narrator did a good job reading the book as well.

Main character is whiny and immature
Revisado: 03-02-23
I was looking for something good to read after I read books by Bethany Adams, and Rachel Higginson came up. I started this book with enthusiasm, but quickly grew dismayed because of the whiny way the MC wanted to stay in her bubble, even after being shown why that wouldn't work. I kept hoping she'd redeme herself toward the end of the book, but no such luck. Ah well. I won't be continuing this series.

Historia
A down-to-earth global pop star. A deeply spiritual, cerebral powerhouse. A famously outspoken introvert. For her millions of fans, and the few unacquainted, defining rock luminary Alanis Morissette is an exercise in dichotomies and nuance. And though her most formidable traits are seemingly at odds with one another, they are, oddly enough, completely emblematic of all of us: complex, conflicting, and, most importantly, ever evolving. With her striking command of language and profound emotional fluency, the 46-year-old covers an enormous amount of personal ground with listeners.

Honest and enjoyable
Revisado: 04-07-21
I really enjoyed listening to this. When Alanis Morissette‘s music came out in the 90s, I was not a big fan. However, it grew on me over the years. The one thing I would say about this is that I felt like somebody was asking Alanis questions that we did not get to hear. I feel like this was supposed to be edited as kind of a stream of consciousness, but it didn’t really feel that way to me listening to it. I felt like somebody who was not part of the audio ask questions that she answered, from her tone of voice. There were spots that didn’t sound quite natural to me. The acoustic performances of the songs were very well done.

Story incomplete
Revisado: 02-19-21
I am a big fan of Mercedes Lackey, but this story is really hard to get into. The narrator did an excellent job of narrating, and that helped me listen to the whole story.
Pros: The female characters of the story seem to have it all put together, except for the evil female character. That would be a good thing, because if you can see a weakness, you can cash in on it. I can see why there is a second book in the series, and I want to listen to it if for no other reason than to see how the story will go.
Con: Eric spends too much time not thinking, even drunk or stoned. And when being drunk or stoned isn't an excuse, he doesn't use his brain very much at all until he absolutely has to. Also, this plot line has a lot of holes. What exactly happened at Julliard? How did he get to L.A., because $20 bus fare wouldn't have cut it? Why would one burn down an apartment without first checking to see if anyone was in it first? There are lots of other questions I have, but I don't want to spoil it for the people that are still going to read this book.

Historia
Daddy Won’t Let Mom Drive the Car: True Tales of Parenting in the Dark is a book of short vignettes - most of them lighthearted, a few more serious - about my life as the blind mother of a sighted daughter. Welcome to my journey! My blindness has changed a few practical logistics. But in the end, kids are kids and moms are moms, and the dents and delights of parenthood are universal.

Great, honest stories
Revisado: 01-28-21
I am not a parent, but I am someone who is blind. I have godchildren, nieces and nephews. I hoped that I would not be bored with this story, but didn't think I would be since I also read The bright side of darkness. I was not disappointed.
There are stories in this book that anyone can relate to. I particularly enjoyed the pet blessing story (One of my cats escaped her carrier before we could go to church, so the priest came to my house to bless her for me. He said she looked at him with a curious expression as if wondering if the ceiling was leaking). I've also watched with concern as school shootings have risen, and kids don't have that feeling of safety at school as they might have in the past.
The stories have caused me to think about how I perceive things as a blind woman. For instance, the story of the ugly duckling cake made me think about how when my sighted roommate moved in, lots of people started treating her as if she took care of me. I became worried about the impression I would make as a blind person. I had to do things just right. And as I read, (and as I have also learned) I was reaffirmed in my belief that all of us, regardless of ability, need help from time to time. We may do things a little differently, but the point is that we do them.
I also enjoyed the brookie and cabbage burger recipes. :)

Historia
Rick Myers is a despondent 17-year-old who just lost his parents in a car wreck. His family is now the four teenage buddies he's grown up with in a run-down apartment building. Fast with their fists, flip with their mouths, and loyal to a fault, "the crew" is all he has. At least he thinks so until he meets Daisy, an intelligent, independent, self-assured blind girl. Her guts in a world where she's often painfully vulnerable intrigue Rick, and her hopeful outlook inspires him to begin believing in himself.

Pretty good story, great narration
Revisado: 01-03-18
I usually listen to books because I want to escape reality, take a break so that I can come back refreshed later. I don't normally listen to books where the story could take place in my hometown or one like it. Therefore, I almost didn't read this book...
But i am glad I didn't give up on this story. For one thing, the narration was excellent. For another thing, the characters in this book are ones, even though I haven't been a teenager for a while, I could still relate them.
This book is definitely worth the credit, worth the time taken to listen to it, and worth listening to.

Revisado: 11-10-14
I really liked this book. I thought with it being almost 27 hour long that it would drag. Howeber, between the narrator and the plot itself, I thoroughly got into this story. Parts made me laugh, and parts made me cry. I think that is a good sign that the author is really capable.
