Historia
Kate Bowler is a professor at Duke Divinity School with a modest Christian upbringing, but she specializes in the study of the prosperity gospel, a creed that sees fortune as a blessing from God and misfortune as a mark of God's disapproval. At 35, everything in her life seems to point toward "blessing". She is thriving in her job, married to her high school sweetheart, and loves life with her newborn son. Then she is diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 02-16-24
As a colon cancer survivor, I can relate to her pessimism through her diagnosis and her treatment. I was expecting something more uplifting in this book. Something with more depth of spirituality and less negativity. I did appreciate the last two chapters on what not to say and what to say to someone going through their cancer journey.

Historia
Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday life—children, careers, bills, chores—even as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then a deployment sends Jolene deep into harm's way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider, she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth.

Mixed feelings..
Revisado: 01-09-24
I have such mixed feelings about this one. The story is wonderful, but Lulu and Betsy are incredibly difficult to stand. The narration of the daughters is like nails on a chalkboard. Betsy is a spoiled teenager and her character adds zero value to the story.

Historia
A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself.

Literally….
Revisado: 01-22-23
If I had a dirty martini every time she said literally, I LITERALLY would have alcohol poisoning. Her writing is very immature and monotonous. I am grateful I didn’t waste a credit on this book.

Historia
When it comes to cancer, conventional doctors are trained to treat their patients exclusively with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. These methods are grueling on the whole body - and they don't treat beyond the tumor or the cancer itself. The focus is on the disease, not the whole person - and because of this, the outcomes in conventional medicine can be bleak. But it doesn't have to be this way. Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy has developed a whole-person approach to treating cancer.

Thank you Dr. Connealy
Revisado: 09-27-22
Since my stage 3B colon cancer diagnosis in July 2022 I have been reading all that I can about ways I can heal myself. Most information seems so overwhelming and unrealistic. The information that Dr. Connealy shares in her book is practical and doable. To anyone fighting the cancer fight or to those supporting them on their journey I would highly recommend this book.

So relatable
Revisado: 04-24-22
I laughed… I cried. I throughly enjoyed this book. Highly entertaining. The end is predictable, but it’s still so satisfying.
