This book expands on the movie in such great ways while still staying true to the story.

I’ve probably watched the movie 200x, and this still brought a ton of enjoyment. Wasn’t a bit of retelling.

62+ hours. Savored it all. Usually do these books in 3 weeks. Took 3 months this time. So worth it. So much happening. For deep cosmere fans there is so much to unpack! And honestly, who else would be realistically reading this review.

So much fun. Totally unique fantasy.

What a unique and well developed world!? This book is less than 7 hr long, yet it has so much mythology and history and unique magic and complex characters. But despite packing so much in a novella it never felt overdone or dense. Fast paced. Funny. Highly recommended.

Engaging. Insightful. Great use of a “frame story” to lend narrative flow to nonfiction

Definitely enjoyed the frame story where the author is sharing his Alaskan backcountry experience, as well as all the science and history interspersed throughout.
Great job too weaving in tones of solid quotes from all the people interviewed.
Will recommend to everyone I know.

Second best issue after cosmic horror

Only complaint: Bronson Pinchot only narrated the opening and closing. Love that guy’s audiobook work. But every other narrator was great too, so it’s all good.

Love this genre. Didn’t know this was the name, but they cover it sufficiently in the issue.

Highly recommended if you like weird fiction and short fiction.

Good stuff. The Mayberry was awesome. So was the LaValle. Wish there’d been more.

Feels like a light issue. But they all hit.
The poetry is super bizarre but also really good.
Not the best of the new post Covid issues, but also not the worst (spoiler alert, there isn’t a worst. That said, this one is on the stronger side. The cosmic horror and untamed with the hagraven on the cover are the best).

Good edition, not great

Not as good as the unthemed episode with the hagraven on the cover. But still good. More than a few times it sounded like true lovecraft/reh. Some people have dissed the essays, but I really enjoyed them too.

Dumbledore deep dive for potter nerds

My wife and I have been falling asleep to HP for 15 years now (Jim Dale of course). I expect we’ve listened to them all as many times as the author has read them. Yet this offered new insights, and ideas.
Certainly worth the $5 if you’re a potter fan looking for a fun, quick listen.
The footnote web addresses being read aloud is annoying, but by the end I was actually laughing at them more than anything. It’s a very random 15 seconds every time. Irksome, yes -but brief.

Great narrator, good mystery. Nothing profound

I certainly enjoyed it, but it won’t be a relisten.
A good story. Unique world building. (Hope there’s more in the world).
The main characters were very enjoyable too, especially their banter.
But at the end of the day it wasn’t this profound revelation at the end. Guess it’s more about the journey on this one?
