Historia
England, 1943: Home is no longer safe for eight-year-old twins Molly and Jacob. Night after night, wailing bombs and screeching planes skim the rooftops overhead. They cradle each other, shivering in terror, not knowing if they'll live to see dawn. Their mother, Martha, has no choice but to evacuate them to the safety of the countryside. At the train station, Martha bites back tears as she says good-bye to her precious children. Knowing she might never see them again, she gives Jacob a letter, pressing the envelope into his hands and telling him to only read it if they are in danger.

Historia
In 2004, Doctor Damien Howard's 131st birthday celebration took an unexpected turn. His personal SETI project detected an extraterrestrial signal directed at Earth. Unfortunately, Dr. Howard's long-hoped-for communication contained a message of dire warning rather than greeting. In 1945, humanity had become a species of galactic interest and was given 100 years to address the issue.

I read a bit of SCIFI. this one is modern in the sense that it is woke-friendly. Still i really liked it. interesting characters, easy to get into this book, quite fun. Maybe leaning a bit towards the YA audience. Easy listening.

wanted to like it

this book is slow. not that fun to listen to the experience of the main character slowly putting on his socks etc. You are a bit clueless about what is going on and why which is not that great while nothing is really happening.

an interesting look a bleak future ruled by Christian fundamentalists. i have heard about religious sects who may want to rule in this type of way. Also an interesting way in which they took control, although this was only briefly touched upon. The book has something of an anti-men theme to it, some parts being ridiculous

there are two timelines, one from around the great depression and one from modern day. the older timeline was interesting, but the the modern one was boring. Of course they connect. A touching story and well worth the listen, but not fantastic.
