Anche se, nella descrizione della città sommersa, c’è più fantasia che fantascienza, pure il fenomeno della proiezione del pensiero è assolutamente ben accetto anche ai lettori di fantascienza di quasi un secolo dopo.

Il meraviglioso mago di Oz, di Frank Baum, fu pubblicato nel 1900 ed è un famoso romanzo per ragazzi reso ancor più famoso dal film musicale del 1939 interpretato da Judy Garland e da successivi adattamenti cinematografici e teatrali.
