Historia
It is the autumn of 1880, and Dr. John Watson has just returned from Afghanistan. Badly injured and desperate to forget a nightmarish expedition that left him doubting his sanity, Watson is close to destitution when he meets the extraordinary Sherlock Holmes, who is investigating a series of deaths in the Shadwell district of London. Several bodies have been found, the victims appearing to have starved to death over the course of several weeks, and yet they were reported alive and well mere days before.

This is an outstanding mashup!
Revisado: 05-06-21
The writing in this book was an excellent blending of Lovecraft and Doyle. The narrator did an excellent job of making it sound like a Holmes and Watson adventure. The author even does a solid job of explaining where the adventure was covered up by the "canon" tales.
Bottom line, if you like Doyle and Lovecraft, you won't be disappointed.

A good premise, but a bad story
Revisado: 04-19-21
This book suffers from sloppy writing which snowballs as it goes. Character development isn't realistic, the science fiction is from a $0 budget indie flick, and the human and animal behavior are too unrealistic to discuss. Not a worthy listen for an analytical mind.

A fun story

More witty than well written, I listened to this book in one sitting. It has some maturity themes as well as perseverance themes all wrapped into a delightfully entertaining story.

Historia
We humans like to think of ourselves as highly evolved creatures. But if we are supposedly evolution's greatest creation, why do we have such bad knees? Why do we catch head colds so often - 200 times more often than a dog does? How come our wrists have so many useless bones? And are we really supposed to swallow and breathe through the same narrow tube? Surely there's been some kind of mistake. As professor of biology Nathan H. Lents explains in Human Errors, our evolutionary history is nothing if not a litany of mistakes, each more entertaining and enlightening than the last.

highly informative, but somewhat misanthropic
Revisado: 08-20-20
There are some good anecdotes and stories in this book, and it's highly informative. But it paints a dark bleak picture of humanity and the author takes a negative view on many things which don't merit such a position.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Sci-fi swan song
Revisado: 10-31-19
the narrator has a fun voice, but doesn't put inflection or emotion into scenes which require them. The story is the same old apocalypse begins and is averted at the last second trope.
