A winner indeed
Revisado: 04-04-25
While the three reviews preceding mine were, like mine will be, marked as the reviewer having received this audiobook for free. Did that contribute to the five star reviews from all four of us? I don’t think so because these stories and this performance were definitely, definitely worthy of that score. Easy to listen to and satisfying in their conclusions. Bravo!

Historia
In May 1941, Hitler's Deputy, Rudolf Heβ flew solo to Great Britain. The reason for his flight remained a mystery throughout the rest of the War as he brought no new peace proposals, provided no new insight into Hitler's plans, and did not claim political asylum. In May 1945 and with the war almost at an end, the British Government must decide whether to send the frequently overwrought Heβ back to Germany to face trial on war crimes charges.

A somewhat plausible stretch
Revisado: 10-22-24
The "German" accent made parts of this difficult to understand and the story line was stretched but not to the breaking point. Certainly not a pastiche or true to the canon but interesting nevertheless - and provides a plausible explanation for one of the ongoing mysteries of history. Take a listen and see if you don't agree....

Historia
Unearthed after being lost for nearly a century, at last the memoirs of Mycroft Holmes are available to the general public. In this volume we see what it is when one extraordinarily talented person is the British Government as Mycroft Holmes applies his skills in statecraft to tax evasion, royal honors, Partygate, the 1918 Armistice, and the Abdication crisis of 1936.

Nods nicely to the canon
Revisado: 10-08-24
Tales of Mycroft are few and far between. This work, although extending far beyond what might have been expected in terms of character lifespan, is nevertheless both intriguing and amusing. Good pacing and an excellent performance by the narrator. I very much enjoyed this recording.

Historia
In 1958, the US Air Force nuked the moon as a show of military force. In 1967, the CIA sent live cats to spy on the Soviet government. In 1942, the British built a torpedo-proof aircraft carrier out of an iceberg. Of course, none of these things ever actually happened. But in Nuking the Moon, intelligence historian Vince Houghton proves that abandoned plans can be just as illuminating - and every bit as entertaining - as the ones that made it.

Wow! Just WOW!
Revisado: 10-24-23
Most of my 'reading' now is done by ear: I'm on the 24 book/year plan and regularly get more than that. I'm glad I ignored that first wholly negative review: I found NOTHING of the sort. In fact (production spoiler alert) unlike nearly all other audiobooks, the multiple speakers were actually together when this was done rather than doing their parts separately. Yes, there were little things that might have bothered a dyed-in-the-wool Sherlockian, unable to accept anything but the 'purity' of ACD but this is darn good. I physically read half of Mr. Johnson's "The Man of Legends" which I'd bought several years aso and then restarted after some eye problems. That was just super and without hesitation, I immediately jumped into this (my Book Buddy app shows that I've got 264 Holmes-Doyle works so it was pretty easy.
Anyway, Kenny (as he is known by his friends - of which I'm now one at his invitation) is now one of my top authors and I look forward to much more.

After 2.5 hours, this goes in my DNF pile. British accented narrator from this Italian series is ALL WRONG. Skipping on to the next in this otherwise super listening series!

Historia
Tim Cotton has been a police officer for more than 30 years. The writer in him has always been drawn to the stories of the people he has met along the way. Dealing with the standard issue ne’er-do-wells as a patrol officer, homicide detective, polygraph examiner, and later as the lieutenant in charge of the criminal investigation division certainly provides an interesting backdrop - but more often he writes about the regular folks he encounters, people who need his help, or those who just want to share a joke or even a sad story.

TRULY a feel-good work!
Revisado: 11-09-21
Bangor, Maine. Population 33,000. Facebook followers? Over 400,000 - and Tim Cotton is the reason why!!! If you like folks like Mike Rowe, you will lionize the book. The audiobook, though, is - I think - even better. It’s narrated by the author who has ‘perfect pitch’ as these are his writings. If you’ve ever wished you lived in Maine, read or listen to this - and you’ll know why I’m so very proud to call Bangor home.

Started slow but….
Revisado: 10-24-21
Listen to the first half hour and set this audiobook aside. Came back to a couple of weeks later and struggled through a few more minutes until, to my surprise, the story started picking up. I followed it through to the end and I’m glad I did. It was fun. I may get the second and subsequent audiobooks now. The narrator did an excellent job and they were times when point of view changed. Overall, I enjoyed it.
