Historia
Thirty-three-year-old Abby Stern has made it to a happy place. True, she still has gig jobs instead of a career, and the apartment where she’s lived since college still looks like she’s just moved in. But she’s got good friends, her bike, and her bicycling club in Philadelphia. She’s at peace with her plus-size body—at least, most of the time—and she’s on track to marry Mark Medoff, her childhood sweetheart, a man she met at the weight-loss camp that her perpetually dieting mother forced her to attend.

It's all about the reader
Revisado: 09-27-23
I have rarely been as turned off by someone who was reading the book as I was with this one. As a blind reader, I rely so much on the story-teller to bring the story to life for me. This book's narrative was choppy and amaturish and completely ruined the book for me. I'm hoping someone else realizes this is NOT acceptable and the book is re-recorded because Jennifer Weiner is one of my favourite authors. Very very disappointing.

Historia
Gadsby grew up as the youngest of five children in Tasmania, where homosexuality was illegal until 1997. After moving to mainland Australia and receiving a degree in art history, they found themselves adrift, working itinerant jobs and enduring years of isolation punctuated by homophobic and sexual violence. When Gadsby was twenty-seven, a friend encouraged them to enter a stand-up competition. They won, and so began their career in comedy.

I didn't want it to end
Revisado: 04-24-22
I savoured every last minute and loved it all. Hannah Gadsby's journey is remarkable and this memoir was as brilliant as her shows. If I could give this 11 stars, I would!

Malibu: August 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over—especially as the offspring of the legendary singer Mick Riva. The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself.

Not for me
Revisado: 07-26-21
The story seemed rushed. Too many details crammed in to one story with too many names and far too many characters.

Historia
When it comes to movie critics Violet Epps is a powerhouse voice. Equally unafraid of big Hollywood names and public opinion, her biting reviews are widely quoted. But when it comes to her own life, Violet finds herself unable to speak up - paralyzed by crippling social anxiety. When a chance encounter at the famous Algonquin Hotel unleashes the feisty spirit of the long-dead Dorothy Parker, the famous literary critic of the 1920’s, Violet thinks she is going crazy. But as the rematerialized Mrs. Parker helps her face her fears, Violet realizes how much she has been missing by keeping quiet.

Just what I needed
Revisado: 05-28-21
I loved this story! I'm so happy to finally be able to feel like Dorothy Parker's voice gets a voice.
Wonderfully told story. I'm so glad I read this (or rather someone read it TO me!)
