I had to go back and re listen to some of the first book to remember all the terminology, overall I really enjoyed the mime order and I think it's worth a listen. The narrator is great.

This book was a delightful surprise. The book seeks to teach readers/listeners the myths of ancient Greece in the format those myths were so often passed on: the oral tradition of story teling. While many of the myths are gruesome and violent, the book almost reads like a night time fairy tale that you'd listen to around the fire or tucked snugly into bed. The narrator is just perfect for bringing out this storytelling quality - it's more like he's "telling us" the book than reading it to us. A wonderful performance - this is one of the rare times I believe the audio book may be better than the actual book! Highly recommend.

This book is amazingly well written. There were so many beautiful turns of phrase and amazing metaphors and insights (comparing the wrinkled finery left on the floor after undressing to the unappealing leftovers of a banquet, allusions to the manacle-like nature of women's jewelry, chaining them to a life they may not have chosen). Edith Wharton truly is one of the great writers of the 20th century. I was a Literature major in college and I'm sad I never had a chance to study her works there. The narration was very good, the speaker had a pleasant voice.

I found this book to be interesting, informative, and well written. Admittedly, the plot is not that great because not a lot happens and it's all very subtle. However, the details are brilliant and it really gave me a sense of life at that time for these women. I love Janet Song's narration - I've listened to several of her performances and I think she's the perfect choice for this specific book.

Do You Like Random Lists of Words Read Aloud?

While this may be a great "actual" read, it doesn't make a good audio book. The subject matter is interesting, but the book seeks to show how English has roots in different languages like French or Latin by listing all the common words we use that have those roots. And not just one list. There are at least two lists per chapter for something or other (all the words that deal with law, all the words that deal with cooking etc etc etc). This is super tedious and not fun to listen to. Did not hold my attention in any way.
The narrator has a nice voice and he was fine, but I would not recommend this book in audio version, it just didn't translate to the spoken medium.
