Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

The storyline and how well and with care that the author took in developing the characters.
Revisado: 01-27-25
I liked the wide range of personalities and how each character had a part in the storyline. At times it was difficult to keep up with so many characters, however. I imagine that this could have been discouraging for some readers. However, I felt compelled enough to stick with it and , so glad that I did. T

Captivating From the Start!
Revisado: 04-01-23
Kudos for the performances, story line, and especially the audio creation. My busy life and failing eyesight had me looking forward to listening while walking the dog. The performance was real enough to have vivid sight of what was happening and the emotions intended;but the sound effects were amazing! It had me jumping and looking over my shoulder at the sound of a door opening! Oh, did I mention it was the cure to my insomnia, as well! Side Note: Why shouldn’t Race be a part if the story?

Very Enjoyable
Revisado: 10-25-22
Very Touching, and intimate story of the Remarkable contributions of Julia Morgan; in a way which not only informs the reader about San Simeon’s Hearst Castle, her relationship with WR Hearst, but also familiarizes you with the numerous buildings and structures she designed throughout California. Having grown up in the Bat Area, and attended UC Berkeley, it was a delight to not only listen to the well-narrated story via Audible; but follow along with the purchased book, while enjoying beautiful photographs and drawings.

Etta and Claribel Cone had an eye for art that was unparalleled at their time, and they left Baltimore what is perhaps the best gift the city has ever received: their collection.

An interesting story of Art Consumption by the wealthy.

I purchased this to prepare quickly for a book club’s review. Although very pleased with the convenience of it being audible; the story itself was a little dull; but for its historical reference.
