Historia
Yorkshire, 1943. Lily Baines, a bright young debutante increasingly ground down by an endless war, has traded in her white gloves for a set of headphones. It’s her job to intercept enemy naval communications and send them to Bletchley Park for decryption. One night, she picks up a transmission that isn’t code at all—it’s a cry for help.

Fun, original, clever
Revisado: 11-28-22
This is a nice respite from long stories where you lose track of who’s who. Just two characters in an interesting “what if” situation. Both likable, no murder and mayhem, but also not sappy Hallmark. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Historia
Everyone knows the story of Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865, but few are aware of the original conspiracy to kill him four years earlier in 1861, literally on his way to Washington, DC, for his first inauguration. The conspirators were part of a pro-Southern secret society that didn't want an antislavery President in the White House. They planned an elaborate scheme to assassinate the brand new President in Baltimore as Lincoln's inauguration train passed through en route to the Capitol.

Meltzer makes history come alive!
Revisado: 08-16-22
I wish they had taught history with stories like this when I was in school! Brad Meltzer makes history come alive. I learned so much, not only about Lincoln, but also about Pinkerton, secret societies and their conspiracies, early female detectives, and about people never mentioned in the classroom. Real people who influenced history and made it so interesting for me.

Historia
The New York Times best-selling author of George Washington's Secret Six and Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates turns to two other heroes of the nation: Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. In The President and the Freedom Fighter, Brian Kilmeade tells the little-known story of how two American heroes moved from strong disagreement to friendship, and in the process changed the entire course of history.

Interesting and Important Story
Revisado: 02-22-22
This is an objective, interesting story of Lincoln and Douglas. As noted in the epilogue, much of this information was omitted from the history lessons of my youth. I enjoyed and devoured the story. On the other hand, Mr. Kilmeade made a mistake in reading it. He is a mediocre to poor reader, often pausing in the wrong place, separating phrases in the middle, and placing emphasis on the wrong word. I found this strange, as he was reading his own words! The reading is distracting, but the story is excellent. So buy the book and read it yourself!

Unless you are obsessed with sports, it's boring
Revisado: 05-09-21
The story of Sooley's beginnings and his family are interesting. But once the basketball takes over, the play by play is mind-numbing. There is also much discussion of how money dominates college sports and that is unfortunately presented as normal and OK. In the end (spoiler alert) Sooley became just another mega-ego, more athletic ability than common sense, who destroyed himself.

Bud Threadgoode grew up in the bustling little railroad town of Whistle Stop with his mother, Ruth, church-going and proper, and his Aunt Idgie, the fun-loving hell-raiser. Together they ran the town's popular Whistle Stop Cafe, known far and wide for its fun and famous fried green tomatoes. And as Bud often said of his childhood to his daughter, Ruthie, "How lucky can you get?"

Wonderful! Nostalgic!
Revisado: 11-12-20
I loved this walk back into Whistle Stop! Although it has been years since I enjoyed Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, characters kept popping in to remind me of their stories. An older Buddy and his daughter Ruth (after her grandmother) take you back in time and into the future as they connect with descendants of the old Whistle Stop crowd. Fanny Flagg's genius brings it all together and keeps you smiling throughout.

Historia
Nobody knows the people of Wooster, Ohio, better than switchboard operator Vivian Dalton, and she’d be the first to tell you that. She calls it intuition. Her teenage daughter, Charlotte, calls it eavesdropping. Vivian and the other women who work at Bell on East Liberty Street connect lines and lives. They aren’t supposed to listen in on conversations, but they do, and they all have opinions on what they hear - especially Vivian.

Historia
Taking place during the most critical period of our nation’s birth, The First Conspiracy tells a remarkable and previously untold piece of American history that not only reveals George Washington’s character, but also illuminates the origins of America’s counterintelligence movement that led to the modern day CIA. In 1776, an elite group of soldiers were handpicked to serve as George Washington’s bodyguards. Washington trusted them; relied on them. But unbeknownst to Washington, some of them were part of a treasonous plan.

Revisado: 01-29-19
The story and facts are interesting and well organized to keep your attention. The reader, however, is very melodramatic. I enjoy enthusiasm, but he gets so dramatic that, for me, it distracts from the story.
