Historia
Christine Benvenuto had been married for more than twenty years - with three young children - when her husband turned to her one night in bed and said, "I'm thinking constantly about my gender." Unhappy in his body, he wanted to become a woman. Part memoir, part voyeur's look into a marriage, Sex Changes is a journey through the end of a marriage and out the other side.

Portrait of a woman with a profound lack of empath
Revisado: 01-29-15
Would you try another book from Christine Benvenuto and/or Renée Raudman?
Never
Have you listened to any of Renée Raudman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The performance was alright, certainly not the worst party of the book.
Any additional comments?
The author seeks to go out of her way to vilify Trans people, and it was quite hurtful to listen to. I tried hard to give her the benefit of the doubt and be understanding of her situation, but this book paints the portrait of a horrible self centered woman with a profound lack of empathy too caught up in her own suffering to consider what others around her are going through.
She spends the entire book criticising Tracey for making what is in many cases a life or death choice without the smallest respect of even using her preferred pronouns, then ends the book talking about how much she likes sex with her new man. I'm sincerely glad the author feels like she grew through all this, but the the author's selfishness is just disgusting.
Maybe I'll calm down after a few days, but this was the worst trite I've ever wasted my time listening to.

Historia
To take a skeptical approach to American history is not to dabble in imaginative conspiracy theories; rather, it's to reframe your understanding of this great nation's past and actually strengthen your appreciation for what makes American history such a fascinating chapter in the larger story of Western civilization. And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.

I love this series. These lectures are mind blowing and enthralling to one who does not already have knowledge of American history.

Einstein's Relativity and the Quantum Revolution: Modern Physics for Non-Scientists, 2nd Edition

Historia
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these 24 lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

Best intro to Relativity I've ever heard
Revisado: 01-14-14
Would you listen to Einstein's Relativity and the Quantum Revolution: Modern Physics for Non-Scientists, 2nd Edition again? Why?
Maybe, it got its point across very well so I'm likely to move on to harder books.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Wolfson mentions that basically all of special relativity is derived based on the theory that the speed of light is always the same and everything else follows from that. It's really a staggering thought that a single premise as such would affect how time works.

Historia
Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

Too smart for me, but I'm trying.
Revisado: 01-14-14
If you could sum up The God Delusion in three words, what would they be?
Burden of proof.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The God Delusion?
Probably the chapter I like most was the one about climbing Mount Improbable. I've never heard someone explain why the burden of proof regarding God should not ever be placed at the feel of people who don't believe, and that I will never forget.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I need to be in the right mood to listen to Dawkins (the mood to pay attention and think).
Any additional comments?
Dawkins is too smart for me. I have a hard time following what he's saying sometimes which I suspect is just that I'm not smart enough, though I think this is partially the occasional switching of voices for quotations throwing me off.

Historia
Let's be honest - nobody has more fun than atheists. Don’t believe it? Well, consider this: For nonbelievers, every day you’re alive is a day to celebrate! And no one celebrates life to the fullest like Penn Jillette - the larger, louder half of legendary magic duo Penn & Teller - whose spectacularly witty and sharply observant essays in Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday! will entertain zealots and skeptics alike.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Only if they're a fan of Penn & Teller, and in particular Penn.
Any additional comments?
Still can't tell what the point of the novel is, but more stories and more rambling was still entertaining to listen to. Sorta like listening to a friend's stories.

Not sure what the point is, but fun to listen to.
Revisado: 01-14-14
Would you listen to God, No! again? Why?
Probably would listen again in a few years. I'm a fan of Penn & Teller and quite enjoy listening to Penn rambling.
What was most disappointing about Penn Jillette’s story?
I couldn't really discern what the overall point was, if there is one.
Any additional comments?
If you like Penn & Teller you might enjoy this. Try listening to an episode of his podcast first maybe, as it's just about as rambly as this is.
