Surprisingly good feline fiction!

Loved the character development. Author leaves a trail of tantalizing clues along the way. Ending came on too abruptly, though, and left many questions unanswered. Excellent narration by a SAG-AFTRA actor with an impressive range of accents.

A slow burn...but worth the ride

This book is a slow burn. It takes a while to warm up, especially compared to Scalzi's other, more fast-paced books, but it's worth it. If you dive in expecting action, you'll be disappointed. But if you sit back and enjoy the dialogue, character development and world-building, you'll be rewarded with a few delightful surprises.

One of the few books where I would recommend the audio version over the printed version. The musical performances and voices made this book special. My son and I treasured every minute. I'd say it was my favorite book (of any medium) this year.

Unlistenable

I just can't get past the contrived accents and mumbling of the voice actors. It was hugely distracting to the story, which I'm sure is good. Tip to potential buyers: Listen to the audio sample before you buy, since the voice acting can be a matter of personal choice. I personally found it unlistenable and will be buying the paper version of this title.

That is the classic part, and for readers like myself who just want to escape into a richly woven world, it's perfect. The mastery lies in how these classical parts are woven together. So, even though I knew how this book is bound to end, I was still intrigued and surprised by its masterful twists and turns, making the journey through this book thoroughly enjoyable.
