Wonderful holiday trilogy
Revisado: 07-07-25
Listening a second time to this Christmas time trilogy. And enjoying it just as much as the first time! I especially like the newest series, Blood River, with Buck and Jolene’s blended family and the generally diverse cast of characters. Gives me a good feeling for the future of humanity.

Feel good story
Revisado: 06-30-25
Appreciated the second chance love theme. Despite the soap opera style performance by one of the narrators (Tessa) and some highly implausible plot points (for example, inheriting a fruit farm in Sedona that can sustain itself on wholesale and farmer’s market sales), the overall story, the characters who grow, and a plot without too much angst, were all worth the listen.

5th book is silly and annoying. Middle school level.
Revisado: 06-27-25
The adult characters have become neurotic, the author’s word count is 20 percent ostensibly reintroducing the recurring characters and their backstories.
It’s become a middle school age story. But the teens show very poor judgment.

Book four is so far one of the best in this whimsical series. The first was also strong as the debut.
Revisado: 06-26-25
Dorian the gargoyle is worth the price of admission. Max is mostly his usual annoyingly square self and unwilling to take in new information, though there’s finally a shift. Zoey is her usual fretful and credulous self. The female detective is a good strong female character. And Parnell and Nicola show some hard earned wisdom in the telling of their tale. The narcissistic villain character is well done! No spoilers on who that is, of course.

Not the best story in the series, but I thought the new narrator did fine. However, I agree that I’d like to hear Fog the dog woof. 🐕

Historia
When our story begins, Julia Child is an eager but inexperienced codebreaker longing to prove herself in the male-dominated world of intelligence, and Josephine Baker is, well, Josephine Baker—a world-famous entertainer who is now leading a double life as a spy for the French Resistance. When a golden opportunity arises to infiltrate a high-stakes Nazi gala in Vichy France, Julia must put aside her by-the-book mentality to assist her unorthodox new partner.

Fanciful, but entertaining
Revisado: 04-30-25
Julia’s husband to be is played as stereotypically gay, though he was probably straight since they apparently went on to enjoy a long and happy marriage.
Segregation might have been enforced even abroad during World War Two in the armed forces. Not sure how that would have affected Josephine. The story is almost entirely fictional though.

Rollicking and humorous adventure.
Revisado: 04-29-25
Wish the female characters would spend less time in their conversations talking about men. It takes away from the theme of the four talented older gals taking on evil in the world via their assassin profession. Nonetheless, a wonderful mental vacation of vicarious satisfaction of good triumphing over evils - so needed now in these tense and troubled times here with our democracy at risk in the USA 🇺🇸
