Historia
In a riveting debut thriller that has drawn comparisons to masters of the genre like Dennis Lehane and Michael Connelly, Brian Freeman weaves obsession, sex, and revenge into a story that grips the reader with vivid characters and shocking plot twists from the first minute to the last.

Those typical prejudices are so tiresome …
Revisado: 11-23-23
I had never heard of this writer . I was desperate to find anything halfway decent in this genre so I took a chance on another novel by the same man and it was good. I hope that that opinion was not influenced by the fact that the previous book I had read before this authors was so laughably stupid ( a different author ). This book was going okay , a bit slow , but I decided to stick with it based on my experience with the other book I had read by this author . Unfortunately I hit chapter 6 today and the misogyny and homophobia with that same old entitlement guys feel they have rolled into the novel like a steamroller .

After some really inane wastes of credits I am trying this book. I sure hope i it’s not written for whiny evangelicals or is some sort of right wing diatribe .

The Blue Plague came roaring out of the Congo and into the United States - and it can’t be stopped. The Infected become violently insane and impossibly strong. They’re not zombies - no, that would be too easy - they’re something much worse. The Infected are violent and unstoppable, but they can think. They can heal from most wounds. Reality check
Revisado: 04-24-22
Wtf is wrong with this genre ? Are the only available titles those that are replete with misogyny , racism , xenophobia and an overriding stupidity amongst the characters ? “ out of wedlock” , seriously ? And this after the parents admitted to living together without the benefit of whatever evangelical bodies blessing this author adheres to .
Don’t get me started on the whole blue zombies . This book is ridiculous !

Oh where do I end ?
Revisado: 04-23-22
This book was nothing like it’s predecessor or the first book in the series . However you wish to term it. The story was nothing short of containing nothing of substance . Long winded and banal . The narrator , whom I experienced on another book which I had to return , is awful. Note to narrator and whomever : if you’re going to try and do vernacular , accents, regional or presumed ethnic voiceovers , PLEASE don’t let Mr Pierce attempt an African American urban accent . It was cringeworthy and tbh, I’m not sure how the editors allowed it to pass as anything other than verging on stereotypically racist . This is not necessarily an accusation toward Mr Pierce but someone else should’ve said this won’t work .

Historia
Edwin St. Andrew is eighteen years old when he crosses the Atlantic by steamship, exiled from polite society following an ill-conceived diatribe at a dinner party. He enters the forest, spellbound by the beauty of the Canadian wilderness, and suddenly hears the notes of a violin echoing in an airship terminal—an experience that shocks him to his core.

I fell for the NPR and other hype regarding this book. It is not for me . I read all the sparkling reviews here and wonder if we listened to the same novel. Definitely a waste of a credit.

Lincoln Miller, an ex-Navy SEAL turned NCIS special agent, is sent to Aquarius, the world’s only sub-oceanic research facility, located off the Florida Keys, to investigate reports of ocean dumping. A week into his stay, strange red flakes descend from the surface. Scores of fish are dead and dying, poisoned by the debris that turns to powder in Miller’s fingers and tastes like blood. Miller heads for the surface, ready to fight whoever is polluting on his watch. But he finds nothing. No ships. No polluters.... No oxygen.

Revisado: 10-20-21
Suffice to say I like the way Mr Robinson spins a tale. I like that he is real and doesn’t cower to the whiners about profanity . The fact that this was written in ‘12 is really affirming for me . I know k the various agencies of the gov’t , both local , state and national are inflected with the racists , xenophobes and homophones that since the last presidency people take pride in owning . The police and military are replete with these types and I can say that since I had to endure their vitriol when I was active duty . January 6 incomes thorough in all the elements of this story , hence my mention of its’ clairvoyance .
Really good book !

Somewhat disappointed
Revisado: 06-26-21
The homophobic slurs and the racist entitlement that flowed from one especially regarding colonialism seriously put me off .
AMD I just don’t buy a narrator who can’t pronounce phrases or words in a no English language when preparing to do their job. There’s no excuse for it .
Other than that , the premise is decent enough .
I know when delving into this genre one has to be careful of the authors personal stuff . It’s why. I stay away from Ben Coes a d that group..

Decent series
Revisado: 03-25-21
So this is my second book in the series . As with the first book I’m fascinated by the sino expertise . The story is compelling . It is very well laid out and the scientific and medical information is quite well researched and accurate. The only issue I have personally is the notion set forth that the Chines characters who work for the PRC government are somehow not elite in a society where most live hand to mouth . It is simply die to the fact that they belong to the “party” that allows them their freedom of access , among other things .

Worth it !
Revisado: 03-16-21
This was a pretty amazing read . The narration was excellent and his diversity made the experience even more worthwhile . The characters are really good. Obviously I have my favorites ( shout out to : Bear , Thomas ! Zara , and especially Doc ). It goes without saying that the mentally cripples ( Trumpers, etc) might be confused by some of the more salient mentions in the story . It is written in a way that most people speak , that is in real life .
I strongly recommend it.

This was a really decent ride . Brody is awesome . I wouldn’t like a human character like him so , good work!
I’ve listened to this narrator before in another series . His voice is intense and , for me , takes some adjusting . He did a grist job here too.
