Romance Lover

It was okay but not my cup of tea.

This was my least favorite book from this author. I read some of her other books that were great. but this one just missed the mark for me. it came highly recommended so I was excited to read it. when I bought this book I was in the middle of reading another book and I forced myself to finish that book just so I can read this book. and I'm a little disappointed.

a personal pet peeve is the abuse of adverbs. when they are overused to the point of lazy writing and redundancies it really makes it hard to enjoy the book. I'm not sure if this is a failure on the author or the editor or both. but this author's other work is normally beautifully done so I'm kind of looking at the editor on this one. when I see that name I already know that it's going to be written with Talent. it's a name I trust to deliver a beautifully written dark book. and this might be a fluke but it has really missed the mark. but again this is a personal pet peeve so this issue may not be an issue for other people. and if the overuse of adverbs incorrectly doesn't bother you then you should definitely give this book a chance. if it does bother you then skip this book and enjoy her other works because they are great.


what I can say that I thought that she did well is going between past and present giving us bits and pieces. a lot of people complain about a book full of flashbacks but I'm finding it not to be as horrible as other people claim it is. I enjoyed the flashbacks. I would have liked it better if when you have the subtitle they gave you the time frame that it also gave the ages of the characters. because it flashed back a lot I kind of got a little confused on ages. because it was a little hard to keep track I had to occasionally readjust the scenes in my mine to the right age.

I also felt like the smexi scenes were lackluster. they came across as weird more than exciting or forbidden. and I guess because the main characters are so emotionally and mentally messed up that they are like the most awkward damaged people. it's like watching a train crash but you can't look away even though it's gruesome and horrible. that's how the smexi scenes felt for me. if that was intentional then the author hid it out of the park.


another thing that ruined this book for me was the narration. it kept changing volume in the middle of a sentence. almost like it would cut a word spliced in and then cut again but that spliced added word was lower than the rest of the sentence. there are Parts where she repeated lines. and I can hear all of the background noises. and maybe this isn't noticeable when you're listening out loud but I had my headphones in and the background noises were very loud and distracting. dumping and beeps.


unfortunately I have to give it a two star which makes it just okay because it wasn't a great reading experience for me. I was taken out of the story a lot from the narration to the overuse of adverbs. the smexi scenes did not tantalize and sometimes it was hard to keep the characters ages straight in the flashback, so I had to readjust a lot.

usually a great story with great characters can overcome bad narration. or great narration can overcome a low quality story. a subpar story with subpar narration just ruins the whole experience for me. it kills me to give a two-star but I have to be honest. even if you decide to skip this book please give this author's other work a chance because this is probably a fluke.

Wholesome romance

The author and narrator did a good job. The narrator has really good talent in telling the story. And the author does a good job in writing the story.

For me this was just a three-star Romance. It's very predictable. The author makes it painfully clear who is the hero, who is the heroine, and who is the villain. And I just found myself a little bit bored with the predictability.

Honestly I think this book will make a great movie. It'll be just the type of cheesy Romance movie that I would love to watch on Netflix when I'm having some me time and some snacks. But when it comes to my books I like it a little bit more exciting even if not dark and twisted. I don't want it to be predictable.

A little bit of foreshadowing to make me collect Clues along the way is great. but this is Neons signs highlighting everything to the point its overwrapped in a pretty little bow.

The foreshadowing was basically telling me what is about to happen in the next chapters.

I was praying for a curveball but nope it played out exactly how I thought.


Sorry author but the foreshadowing is just so heavy. A foreshadow should be a hint of what's to come and make me work for it. This is basically telling me what's going to happen next.

I exclusively read romance so it's quite possible that I'm able to predict this plot perfectly only because of my experience in the genre. Maybe i am jaded.

But I say this book is perfect for those who love sweet good wholesome Romance. The type of romance that should be turned into movies that belong on Netflix. I love watching those types of movies but I don't like that type of boring predictable plot in my books.

And I know that sounds weird but it's just my preference.

Don't let me deter you Away from this book. Please feel free to give it a chance.

My middle of the road rating is only my own preference not because the author or the narrator lacks in any type of skill.

The narrator did a good job and my low rating it's not a reflection on their narrating skills. I would also like to say that the author writing skills are also good. My low rating is not due to the author's writing talents. It's simply because I do not like this trope/plot. The author created a instant love story and I truly hate those type of stories. The main couple had the (s word that ends in x) then they didn't talk to each other for a long time. One was too busy to talk to the other (even a simple hello, text, or email was too much even though they would have had to eat sleep and *use the bathroom* ) and kept avoiding them at all costs. Made it hyper unrealistic. Humans aren't robots that run 24/7/365 so there is always time for quick communication. And if they are that daft then that is why they are getting a divorce and missed all the signs. They are a terrible partner in a relationship to be that selfish and self absorbed.

Anyway they finally meet up and it's just (the s word that ends in x) again. Next thing I know they're getting all deep and heavy wanting exclusive labels and titles.

They haven't even went on a single date but started talking about how they wanted so much more than (the s word that ends in x).


(First off of he dates her first he will learn why she is a terrible girlfriend and dump her fast. )

But reading this left me completely confused on why they would jump to a relationship knowing nothing about each other and wouldn't even do a date first? He needs to see she is a nightmare. Look how she treated you after a bang and then ghost you for weeks or whatever. Then magically she has been missing him but iced him out for weeks not even a simple hi. Toxic instalove

Despite being a older woman the female main character is incredibly immature. Again she lied saying that she was so busy that she couldn't even acknowledge his existence. And just left the male main character to feel used and thrown away.

That whole ordeal was pointless and didn't give anything to the plot. It just made me not like the female main character and to feel like this is a story about teenagers instead of grown adults.

If you're going to do a age Gap with an older woman don't make her a teenybopper in the mind and toxic. How she acted is not how a woman of her age should be acting at this point in her life. Leave the high school stuff in high school.

Real talk. Teenage romances have more substance than this couple and they are basically still children.

And then to jump right over dates and getting to know each other right into full-blown serious relationship mode was a nope and dnf for me.

Maybe I will try to come back to it later but I found myself extremely irritated with the characters and lost interest in them getting together. If I wanted teen immature Romance I would buy a young adult novel.

The author has writing skills but for me the plot itself is a no.


This book will be great for those who like instant love.


Again this is completely my opinion and you might pick up the book and take away a completely different experience.


Give it a chance because the narrator and the author have talent. It might be worth gamble for you even though it wasn't for me.

The performance was great. the writing was great. but I do not like the way the author handled the story elements. This book has all of things I love but the way the author used them made it more cringe than joy. If you want a fresh take on the alien mail order bride BDSM then this might be up your alley. I recommend lovers of dark books to give it a chance. my yuck is another yum.

This was well written and the author does a great job at worldbuilding. I was laughing from the very first chapter and excited to see it all blow up in their face lol. Lovers of alien romance will love this short story.

This is my first historical romance. Although I am not sure this subgenre is for me. The book moves at a pace expected for an historical romance but as a romantic suspense/paranormal romance reader I found the pacing a little too slow for my taste. That is not a knock on the author or the story. I am just saying the book wasn't for me. With that said this book is well written with vivid imagery and characters sure to capture the heart of any fan of this subgenre.

The narrator did a pretty good job with different voices and made the listening experience easy going.

I love alien romances and this was right up my alley. its a slightly different alien abduction but i loved the way it was done. i was secretly rooting for a throuple and i dont understand why she wasn't into the younger brother. I am not sure I will read the next book in the series but this was satisfying enough to stop here and not follow through. it was just wrapped so well that i cant see it as being worth a read through

This was so good! I only wished that all of the amazing things we knew Ethan did for Rachel she knew too? She got to be so annoying at the end when she just iced him out and ghosted him. soooo many people and signs were saying that he was fighting for her and she was just ignoring him because he was honest with her and wanteds her to do what was best for her. i loved ethan but rachel was an eh by the end of the book. I dont not like her but I dont see what he saw in her. but it was still a great book. do not pass this up. Rachel is bad I just wasnt connecting with her. but their love had me rooting for them all the way even if she wasnt my favs. ethan loved her and that was good enough for me.

this book was great

the story was very well written and the characters were super well developed. the author made a very rich world that had a lot of distinct personalities in this full cast book. I mean there were a lot of characters as a lot of interactions happened with a group of friends. and the author gave each character an unique voice where just by the dialogue I knew who was speaking. so that made the narrator's performance that much better because they were able to pick up the nuances of these different characters. I think that right there in its self is proof to a great author narrator combo. as for the couple I like them together. they were very cute and I didn't have any like reservations about them getting together. I really did want them to get together.

the only thing I did not like is this author wanted to do a slow burn, but because these characters were around each other all the time and they lived in the same building, there's really no reason why intimacy shouldn't have happened between them a lot sooner.

it seemed a little too obvious as a reader that the author was gone for a slow-burn but they made stupid Interrupters or stupid things that kept it at bay. it was just a little too thin. it would have been more believable if they didn't live in the same building. or even though they lived in the same building the character should have had more Hang-Ups on hooking up.

the H new sleeping with her could complicate things but he didn't really seem to care because he pursued her openly and didn't try to be discreet in the least bit. but the h had a big hang up on not getting involved with Fighters but then she decided she's going to do a one time with him. which is great but then the author made all these weird dances between them that should have resulted in somebody getting laid.

don't get me wrong I love a good slow burn but this was not done well in that particular area. that's my only negative about this book but I still recommend it.

narrator is ruining the book for me

the story itself is written well and I don't really have any complaints on that but the narrator is totally killing all enjoyment for me. I have tried several times to get into the story but it's really hard when the narrator is this bad. maybe I'm just spoiled because I listen to a lot of audiobooks by a lot of great narrators who really bring the story to life that I cannot listen to someone this monotone and lifeless. as far as I'm concerned the only mistake the author made is picking this narrator. definitely listen to the audio sample and decide if you can hang. if the narrator is okay for you to enjoy the story then get the book because the author has the skill. I just couldn't get deep into the story because the narrator kept taking me out of the story. so the story gets 5 star the narrator is a 1-star with the overall 3 star. like I said check out the audio sample if it's not that bad for you definitely get this book. my review is solely based on my experience but I'm sure other people love this narrator so don't take my word for it check it out yourself.
