Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Historia
Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s brutal Medellín Cartel was responsible for trafficking tons of cocaine to North America and Europe in the 1980s and ’90s. The nation became a warzone as his sicarios mercilessly murdered thousands of people - competitors, police, and civilians - to ensure he remained Colombia’s reigning kingpin. With billions in personal income, Pablo Escobar bought off politicians and lawmen, and became a hero to poorer communities by building houses and sports centers.

Not the greatest but worth listening to
Revisado: 07-13-23
It’s interesting to learn about these guys. Pena seems like a very self aware man who knows himself and has come to terms with his decisions-both good and bad. Murphy seems overly concerned with how the reader sees him and his attempts to convince the reader that he (and his wife) are “good “ people are kind of heavy handed.

Historia
There’s a California that everyone imagines, a world of Hollywood glitz and Silicon Valley, and then there’s the real California. The one where everything is the color of dirt. Where the speed freaks gangbang on Haight Street, where evil is lurking, where violence erupts like cystic acne. The place was never crazier than the ’60s and the ’70s, a time when Dad transformed from a hippie-hating Reagan voter into a weed-addled swinger with a crash pad in the Valley. And right in that moment? There’s this guy who calls himself Zodiac.

Okay book, great performance
Revisado: 05-16-23
Iphgenia Baal is a pleasure to listen to. Great performance.
When confining himself to the Zodiac, this is a very good book. Good common sense review of existing Zodiac information.
Unfortunately, the author feels the need to interject little political jibes which are mostly just worn out liberal cliches.

Nothing really new or interesting about the Beatles. Narrator (who is also the author) is pretty uneven-to the point of annoyance.
This book is crying out for a skilled editor to clean it up.

Interesting stuff.
Revisado: 06-16-18
Offers a great inside look at what it has taken to make The Simpsons so good for so long.
I do think it was a mistake having the author also do the narration. This guy can't deliver a line and
has a really annoying way of speaking. Not all good writers are also good performers.
Also, it's sort of weird having the author reading solicited praise for himself from his peers. Not really needed.

In this unapologetic and uncensored autobiography, Andrew Dice Clay is ready to set the record straight. Dice getting laid
Revisado: 09-13-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Hearing about Dice's sexual history get boring pretty fast. The story of his career sounds interesting but, he tells it in a very juvenile way. I made it a few hours before I completely lost interest.
Would you ever listen to anything by Andrew Dice Clay again?
Probably not.
How could the performance have been better?
Some guy doing a poor Dice impersonation.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.

Historia
The great adventure story tells of Odysseus, a veteran of the Trojan War, who - through a landscape peopled with monsters, sea nymphs, evil enchantresses, and vengeful gods - makes his tortuous way home to his faithful wife, Penelope. Shipwrecked numerous times, faced with apparently insurmountable obstacles, offered the temptations of ease, comfort, and even immortality, Odysseus remains steadfast and determined. Themes of courage and perseverance, fidelity and fortitude.

Cavett at his best
Revisado: 12-10-14
What did you love best about Brief Encounters?
Cavett's style. He obviously enjoys being the smartest guy in the room. He has had a fascinating life and he shares it in perfectly sized doses.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Cavett is Cavett.
Which character – as performed by Dick Cavett – was your favorite?
He did them all very well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No- you don't want to use it up too quickly.
Any additional comments?
His sniping at conservatives- Cheney, Palin, Limbaugh- comes off as petty and dated.

Historia
Novelist Clifford Irving's "autobiography" of Howard Hughes was the literary hoax of our time. This no-holds-barred confession by the author was first published in Great Britain in 1997, where it became a best seller. But no American publisher would touch it until now. Why? The answer is implicit in this ultimate caper story of daring, treachery, and corruption.

Big disapointment
Revisado: 12-10-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can't imagine anyone really enjoying this book
What was most disappointing about Clifford Irving’s story?
Very boring. How can a book about such an interesting subject be so poorly written?
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joe Barrett?
Someone who can tell a story without trying to do all the voices. His female voices, with their accents, were so bad they were hard to listen to.
What character would you cut from The Hoax?
Edith and Nina.
Any additional comments?
Poorly written and poorly narrated. I made it about three hours in and couldn't take any more. One of the worst performances I've heard in quite awhile. This could have been ok if Irving stuck to the story of the Hughes hoax and left out all the filler about his wife and girlfriend.
