Revisado: 09-06-23
Couldn’t finish it, 4hours of wasted adult life of no clear planning or purpose. It surprised me this book even get published

Historia
Millions of people climb the grand marble staircase to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art every year. But only a select few have unrestricted access to every nook and cranny. They’re the guards who roam unobtrusively in dark blue suits, keeping a watchful eye on the two million square foot treasure house. Caught up in his glamourous fledgling career at The New Yorker, Patrick Bringley never thought that he’d be one of them.

Slow development but still beautifully narrated
Revisado: 08-16-23
It took 5 chapters to get to the existing part of the book, it gave an interesting insider perspective on the museum.

Historia
In this fascinating narrative, therapist Catherine Gildiner presents five of what she calls her most heroic and memorable patients. Among them: A successful, first-generation Chinese immigrant musician suffering sexual dysfunction; a young woman whose father abandoned her at age nine with her younger siblings in an isolated cottage in the depth of winter; and a glamorous workaholic whose narcissistic, negligent mother greeted her each morning of her childhood with "Good morning, Monster". Each patient presents a mystery, one that will only be unpacked over years.

Finished the book with a heavy heart
Revisado: 08-12-23
It takes a lifetime to heal the trauma one’s experienced in childhood. Five well-chosen stories, each had its own cultural and societal significance, ALL were victims of brutal child abuse. Danny’s story was no doubt the most powerful, for him, death (spoiler alert: not by suicide) was a better exit. For every victim portrayed in this book, MAY ALL YOUR SOULS CAN REST IN PEACE ONE DAY

Historia
On June 6th 2004, in a quiet suburb of Riyadh, BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner and cameraman Simon Cumbers were filming a programme on al-Qaeda when they were ambushed by Islamic gunmen. Simon was killed outright. Frank was shot and lay pleading for his life. A figure pumped four more bullets into his body at point blank range. Against all the odds, he survived. This is the remarkable account of his agonising journey to where he is today.

Humans did terrible things, but humanity worth saving
Revisado: 12-07-22
Would love to have frank read the book, but not complaining. Came across Frank’s story by accident thru BBC, I reckon the story deserved more attention and readers than what it attracted now. I see a man who lived through hell of recovery, yet still holds a great affection towards the Arab culture. Many may turn hateful, but now Frank. I see a brave man, and a man who fully apprehends the meaning of passion and love.

Stephen Fry should do more of these
Revisado: 04-14-22
True, the book was a bit looong, but the best part comes later in the book, so do not give this up before you reached later chapters, as that was where the story get exciting. My oh my, I cracked up laughing in the middle of metro as Stephen uttered the famous line “you’re a wizard, Harry” :D
Stephen fry once again, did an amazing job on narrating story book.
