Historia
The explosive conclusion to the Newsflesh trilogy from New York Times best seller Mira Grant - a saga of zombies, geeks, politics, social media, and the virus that runs through them all. The year was 2014. The year we cured cancer. The year we cured the common cold. And the year the dead started to walk. The year of the Rising. The year was 2039. The world didn't end when the zombies came, it just got worse. Georgia and Shaun Mason set out on the biggest story of their generation.

Unbelievable Story. Worst Male Narration Ever
Revisado: 06-10-24
This is so difficult. Because it's one of the best stories I've ever read. Epic. The storytelling, world building, the character reactions, battle sequences, and the heroes and villains are absolutely sublime. And the female narration of Paula Christensen is incredible. Her talent with every single female voice is perfect. And her performance of Georgia is an all time performance. You can literally SEE Georgia saying the words. Her emotion in every spot is perfect, she moved me in every big moment.
And then there is the big mistake. One of the biggest mistakes ever in an audiobook: the male narrator.
I don't think Michael Goldstrom is necessarily bad as a narrator. In fact, he would actually be one of the best narrators of a murder documentary that I've ever heard.
But in this story? He is utterly AWFUL. He has no emotion whatsoever. A zombie attack sounds the same as a character going to the bathroom. Every battle that he narrates sounds like a commercial for paper. His voice is exactly the same for every character regardless of gender, he is completely monotone. His voice is so boring and so bad that I have trouble focusing on the story and I had to keep skipping backwards to absorb it. And worst of all, he doesn't sound anywhere near Sean Mason. I found myself begging to hear Paula speak again because I couldn't stand this guy's voice. When I hear the narrator's voice, I see a 75 year old man who looks like Mr. Feeny from the TV show Boy Meets World. Not a 20 something year old wild, crazy hero. He's such an awful fit for this character, and the story overall, that I have to believe he was hired because he was cheap. It doesn't make sense otherwise.
This author seems to truly care about her readers. There's no way she is this out of touch with her biggest male character and what her readers want. I've seen several other complaints about the male narrator. This HAD to be a budget hire to save money. He is so out of place in this story that this has to be a money saving move.
Please, re-record the male parts of this story with a different narrator. Either of the two previous narrators would be perfect, you hear them and you HEAR Sean Mason. I hear Mr. Feeny.
Please re-record it. I'll even put together a Go Fund Me for the costs to hire someone proper. This truly is one of the best stories of all time. I could listen to this story several times over, it's that legendary. It's a shame and a disservice to the readers that it's being told partly by one of the worst male narrators I've ever heard.

Historia
Everyone's favorite wizard, before the beard. We know him well. Ever-flowing wisdom. Concealed power. A white beard and a proclivity for mentoring chosen-ones. In so many tales, we find ourselves enamored with a kindly wizard guiding our protagonist, curious about his roots, source of power, and hidden knowledge. This is that wizard’s story. Falin is only 20 years of age, and with 980 years left to explore the world, he is eager to begin his quest for the Gems of Elsana, four jewels that provide wizards with their full power.

Great story and especially wonderful characters
Revisado: 01-28-23
Absolutely wonderful storytelling. The best part? Unlike many other series like these, especially the Wheel of Time series, the heroes are actually people you can root for. They aren't the best of a terrible bunch. They are truly good people that you can really get behind and embrace. It's what made the Lord of The Rings and the Harry Potter series so popular. And this trilogy is no different. You easily love these characters. Could read this story a hundred times.

Don't buy this. Terrible.
Revisado: 05-11-22
Terrible. Story makes no sense and isn't believable. No adult would react this way. The reactions of the adults make no sense. So a meteor is coming, and instead of making for the shelter immediately, you, what, hang around for weeks? You wait until everything literally goes to hell to head there? Stupid. The only believable part is the reactions of the little girl. Which makes sense because this sounds like it was written by a 12 year old. Awful. Returning this dumpster fire of a story.

Terribly written. Not the same author.
Revisado: 01-17-21
This cannot be the same author. Totally different writing style, and huge, key storyline mistakes. One of the worst books I have ever read. Continues off of the mistakes that were in High Heat. And at the end, completely skips over the reunion between Nikki and her mom!!! After all the pain she's been through over the years regarding her mother's death, the steps she took to bring the killer to justice, and the author SKIPS OVER THAT. The real Richard Castle, the one who I believe stopped writing this book series after Deadly Heat, the last good book I've read in this series, would not have missed that. The first 7 books, he saved all the great emotional stuff for near the end of the novel. If anything proved to me that this is not the same author and is instead some terrible amateur, that was it. It's unfortunately been too long, or I would return this audiobook and High Heat. I wish so much I could return this audiobook and get something else. It's like a dumpster smell that won't go away, and I have to see it every time I scroll through my library. If you are looking into this series, my best advice? Read and/or listen to the first 7 books. The ending of the 7th is perfect, and you will leave on a high note, because whatever you imagine happens after will be better than this pile of dung. Stop at the 7th book, Deadly Heat. Because that is the very last time you will see good writing.
