I was excited by the book. Interesting protagonist with exciting goals. Great start. Then the author injected its leftist propaganda for no reason at all. The book was written like a committee of cultural marxists made a checklist of every moronic idea they’ve ever vomited into the world and then forced a 1980s robot to read it aloud.

This had a lot of potential and started off ok. I liked the mixup of sci-fi and fantasy. Wizards existing in an advanced space faring future is a fun idea the author could point anywhere. Instead, it quickly became a silly advertisement for the Catholic Church.

I don't recommend this book if liberal stupidity bothers you. John Hodgeman should stick to fiction and cheese mongering. His attempts at political commentary were dumb, smug, and boring.

What would have made The Hammer of Thor better?

This piece of garbage is not as advertised and better fit for a Communist Re-education camp than on an open marketplace of ideas. Shame on Audible for selling this crap. If I wanted my kids to read Cultural Marxist trash, I would have sent them to a Soviet Gulag.

What could Rick Riordan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not pushed his perverted justice nonsense on little kids.

A Dirty Aristophanes

What did you like best about this story?

I loved how irreverently Cabell treated everything and everyone- making the holy profane and turning the profane sacred. With wit, he brutalized the Classics, the value of sexual conquest, high society, the virtues of democracy itself, and, as only a rare genius could- he brutalized himself most of all. He invited the listener to be part of the joke and fall in love with a truly epic hero that is actually a pudgy scheming pawn broker. The story revolves around his journey to retrieve his wife whom he fears "has been carried off by a devil, the poor fellow."

For I am Jurgen, and it is the manly thing to do...

Would you listen to The Daylight War again? Why?

I would definitely listen to this again! This is the best new fantasy series to come out in a long time.

What other book might you compare The Daylight War to and why?

It is similar to Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan in terms of plot development, character evolution, and addictive writing style.

Which scene was your favorite?

The final battle screen. I wont ruin for anyone, but it is both a literal and a figurative cliff hanger that had me screaming at my iPhone as the narrator suddenly says, "The End."

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had many extreme reaction, including many laughs and cries.

If you hate being addicted to great stories, then you should stay away from this series in general and this book in particular, because Brett will suck you in and leave you angry that there is not more to consume. Buy this book. Support this new author- Peter V. Brett may very well be "the next great thing."

What made the experience of listening to The Desert Spear the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed how the author can tell the same scene from multiple characters' perspectives. It adds depth to the experience.

Warbreaker

I liked how he could make you both love and hate the same character depending on whose perspective he was reading from.

Definitely, I stayed up all night to finish it.
