Each of the five principal characters were personalized, vibrant and real. Their scars and struggles were real, their justice late in coming.

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

This may have been one of the most horrendous books I've ever encountered simply because of the duration of abuse meted out. How/if the children ever learned to parent appropriately is beyond me.

Based on a true story of courage and determination, woman against the wilderness.
Revisado: 04-08-17
This is a compelling narrative about a woman who survived unimaginable loss when she and her sons were captured by Indians. Taken hundreds of miles away from her home, she survived by demonstrating courage and dignity. Her determination to return to her husband led her to make heartbreaking decisions and suffer incredible privation, nearly dying as she retraced her path barefoot and starving.

Historia
For centuries in Europe, innocent men and women were murdered for the imaginary crime of witchcraft. This was a mass delusion and moral panic, driven by pious superstition and a deadly commitment to religious conformity. In Witch: A Tale of Terror, best-selling author Sam Harris introduces and reads from Charles Mackay's beloved book, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.

Boring
Revisado: 02-06-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The reader was not particularly skillful and didn't have any sense of appropriate pronunciation--i.e., no recognition of Latin terms and a pronunciation that would not sound like flat-footed American English.
Has Witch: A Tale of Terror turned you off from other books in this genre?
I'm interested in the genre because of my interest in researching attitudes toward women in the Middle Ages.

Page Turner!
Revisado: 02-06-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Broken Harbor to be better than the print version?
I think hearing the story in the dialogue of the writer is helpful...somehow hearing unfamiliar terms "in place" as it were, helps them be more easily understood.
What did you like best about this story?
This was an excellent mystery--very hard to see that last twist coming!

Historia
Dr. Kay Scarpetta is working a suspicious death scene when an emergency alert sounds on her phone. A video link lands in her text messages and seems to be from her computer-genius niece, Lucy. But how can it be? It's clearly a surveillance film of Lucy taken almost 20 years ago. As Scarpetta watches she begins to learn frightening secrets about her niece. That film clip and others sent soon after raise dangerous legal implications that increasingly isolate Scarpetta and leave her confused, worried, and not knowing where to turn.

Beautiful.
Revisado: 02-01-16
A lovely and sensitive story of all the people who were caught up in the second world war. young people who had no desire to be involved suffered as much as those who led them into the depths of intrigue
The cruelty with which boys were treated in the name of teaching them strength is appalling. The strength of a blind girl is captivating. This is a read you'll never forget.
