Attonement Child
Revisado: 08-08-19
Even though this book has been on the shelves for years it is still relevant in presenting the abortion issue. It does represent the Christian view, which I personally share, but also many different aspects of why woman have abortions. The ripple effect that it sends across the family and generations. As an adopted child, I want to believe my birth Mother loved me in her womb. I am grateful I was not aborted. Overall, an excellent book. I could barely put it down. The narrative was somewhat annoying at times. But the story trumped her voice.

Historia
"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.

It's a long story
Revisado: 07-20-19
Well done Willie, well done. I finally understand why you don't waste my time as am listen to your music in concert. You are spot on about what you learned from Bob Wells in regards to this. You are a beautiful spiritual human being who is living this human life. This book reflects this fact. 10 out of 10. Narration was great. A good reading experience. I am left wanting you to continue the story with another book upon you 90th birthday!

The other was Lady’s best friend, Nell - adopted after the sudden, heartbreaking death of her mother, the Bellemores’ beloved maid. Willa showered Nell with love and support, all the while ignoring the disdainful whispers of her neighbors. After all, they were family. Nell and Lady were sisters at heart - sisters who vowed to never let anything come between them. Then, on the night of Lady’s sixteenth birthday, something went terribly wrong.

Such a good book.I listened to it it within 2 days. Just did not want to turn it off.
The book had a twist which was so common to a true life incident. And the results for thefamily were so well written. I loved all the people ( except for 2 men) . I loved how the kids were so driven academically.
I enjoyed the narrative tone and voice. Sometimes they can be a be annoying but Shannon's voice (s) are so spot on.
All in all, a very enjoyable book.

The Great Alone
Revisado: 05-13-19
I absolutely loved this book. From the first 5 minutes I was hooked. I felt like I was on a great adventure to Alaska. My imagination went wild with the descriptions of trees, woods, water, ice, what the inside of the cabin smelled and looked like. How beautiful, cold and dangerous the dark winter is. She wrote of childhoods we all have in one way or another while letting us feel her devotion to her Mama. Her need to hear and feel her Father's love and laugh. The true innocent love of young teenagers. Its beautifully written and doesn't let you go until the last word. Again, her descriptive writting brings you into this journey.
As for the narrative from Julia Whelan: I t felt a bit edgy, a bit hurried. Like she couldn't slow down from the story being told long enough to let you think about what was going on. But we have a pause button to push, which I did as I let my imagination go wild on her last words. Then pushed play to go further and further into the Alaskan wilderness, and the lives of these well written characters.
Don't miss this book. It leaves you warm. It has left me wanting more. One great read, or listen!

Great Read
Revisado: 04-30-19
I absolutely love this book! Cupcake Brown tells her story in such a relatable way that your heart breaks for with hers in the beginning. Her life had been brutal and awful, but she survived as best a young girl could. Her story of becoming sober is written just as many recovering people DO hit bottom and make their way thru a 12 step program. It is a truthful and lifting story of her life. As a woman with 24 years of sobriety, I related intimately with the process of her recovery. Amazing.
Bahni Turpin narratives are spot on throughout this book. I am a follower of hers and listen to many books JUST because she performs so well.
One of the best books this year!

Summer Read
Revisado: 04-05-19
Very good light fun read for either a rainy day or a beach day. Nothing too heavy but just enough to keep you coming back. I enjoyed this book. I liked all the characters. They all had a place in Cara's journey. Although her sister did prove to be quite the character in her own right. Performed very well and she was easy to listen to.

A tale of love
Revisado: 03-13-19
What a beautifully written story. Sadly sweet. Mesmerizing. The last words came to quickly. I wanted it to go on and on. I could feel myself in the marsh. I could hear the put-put of the boat motor. My mind brought up beautiful pictures throughout to see from the reading. A great summer book.

Absolutely a fantastic book. I was so glad to read this sequel to Yellow Crocus. Brought the story from the first book full circle. I love the narration of Bahni Turpin. I loved the strong female characters. The children's curiosity. The history is amazing as well as taking into the feelings of these people. I want more. Another sequel in this series. Total enjoyment.

Historia
Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

Fantastic read
Revisado: 12-09-18
I loved this book froM the first PAGE. the life of a slave was explored from her point of view. I never had thought of a wet nurse not being able to nurse or attend to her own child. Yes the life was better for them as a house slave but it came at a price. The 2 stories of Elizabeth and Matte are laid out wonderfully. The fear of escaping clearly emotionally written. The life of a young lady with high expectations from her family also laid before us. What happens there after is beautifully written. A gem to read and to feel the emotions, the pain of the characters. The epilogue is so truthfully written also. It shows how we have have or have not evolved from slavery. Love the narrative of Bahni Turpin. i have listened to 3 books with her so far and will listen to more because she is so talented. I enjoyed the book immensely.
