Historia
Sophie Appersett is quite willing to marry outside of her class to ensure the survival of her family. But the darkly handsome Mr. Edward Sharpe is no run-of-the-mill London merchant. He's grim and silent. A man of little emotion - or perhaps no emotion at all. After two months of courtship, she's ready to put an end to things. But severing ties with her taciturn suitor isn't as straightforward as Sophie envisioned.

A simple novella full of holiday spirit

Loved the narrator's portrait of each character. The plot is simple but full of details and rich character development, and the writing is beautiful. Mimi Matthews's story made my heart flutter :)

Historia
Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

Pick this up if you like horses and a loud donkey!
Revisado: 08-07-18
If you enjoy British banter and sarcasm, animals and a bit of romance, this is the pick for you.
The romantic part comes into bloom almost at the end of the book, but it is well-woven into the story. It is almost like a coming-of-age story for the protagonist Jenny though she is already 28 when the actual plot starts to unfurl. The writing is superb and every character has their own little background story with rich details. They are more than just supplementary characters to help drive the plot. Of course, the villains are a bit flat in the book but I believe there is more to look forward to in the second book from the series.
The animals in the story are the best. Thomas is also a wonderful golden horse. He is not your typical neurotic imaginary friend. I couldn't help envying Jenny who has a giant horse to comfort her and help her face the difficult situations when she's in need. Also, Marilyn the Donkey is the most comical character in the book. The narrator has done a wonderful job portraying Marilyn. I couldn't help burst into laughter when Marilyn did her donkey voice.
Overall, this was a fantastic listening experience! :)

Review on Unwilling by Elizabeth Adams
Revisado: 12-13-16
A delightful P&P variation. The pacing is good, and the characters well developed. I enjoyed Elizabeth Adams' writing style tremendously. I tend to find most P&P variations drag along the way as the story unfolds, but this one is very well-done. Of course, the author doesn't really dwell on unpleasant characters; there is no antagonists in the story: Lady Catherine and Wickham are nowhere to be seen, but the story itself is cleverly-plotted. It is different than any other P&P variations I have read before, and I have to admit that it outshines most of them.
The narrator has done a good job; at first I found it odd to have a male narrator , but it all turned out splendidly.
