Plot Twists Galore!
Revisado: 01-13-25
This book kept me on my toes. There were so many plot twists that kept this moving along nicely. I had to restart a few times but when I got into it, I was enthralled in the story from start to finish.

The hero gets her happy ending!
Revisado: 12-17-24
This was so cute and I love how the hard working woman got her happy ending. I did want the child’s dad to get punched but I guess her glow up was the better revenge.

This series kept me engaged during the holiday’s and all the business of running errands and work. I like that there were multiple cases to be solved and the performance was good.

This was such a fun, entertaining, educational, and feel good story telling series. Being a beneficiary of Stevie Wonders’ musical journey, it hadn’t dawned on me the many challenges that he endured and the ground breaking path he carved with his genius. Thank you so much for this!!

Engaging crime drama (great narration)
Revisado: 04-04-23
This story was compelling and intricate. The man character was so sharp witted and devastatingly stubborn. It was a good tale of what you see for yourself is what you become because as smart as Bug was he could only see himself as a criminal. Each of the other characters had complete stories and their personalities meshed well. I loved the revenge chapters. Also the narrator of this book did an EXCELLENT job!!

Haunting portrayal of unrequited loyalty
Revisado: 03-14-23
Where to begin? This story guts you in unexpected ways. Several times I yelled aloud NOOOOOO because I just of the heartbreaking twists and turns. At its core it’s a story about how putting your life on hold for others never pays dividends. I wanted more for every character I wanted them live their potential, but as in real life most of them didn’t. Just a haunting portrayal of unrequited loyalty and trauma bonds. PS. The narrator on this book made it was hard to get through at some points.

Exciting and exhausting
Revisado: 02-28-23
This book was exciting and exhausting at the same time. With all the nuances of a relationship that grows from youth to adulthood, it covered a lot of topics. The ending was a bit cheesy and predictable but that’s ok.

Hauntingly Tragic
Revisado: 02-27-23
At its core it’s a story of a clandestine friendship that collides with all the pains of the world. It’s shows how you can live a person and not have a clue of what they are going through. From abuse in plain sight, coming of age, fear, economic disparity, unequal justice for Black people that go missing, educational insecurity, and mental health. It’s all woven into a hauntingly tragic series of events. The fact that it is inspired by true events makes it more gut-wrenching. I will say Claudia’s character was insufferable at times but the heroin doesn’t always lead with strength. Where she failed to boldly demand action or even use her voice she made up in perseverance. Even in her flaws she fought for Monday tooth and nail. This is one story that will stick with you for a while.

Decent storyline
Revisado: 01-02-23
To begin, for me Wild Seed is my favorite Octavia Butler book. This one was also good but there were times the story lagged a bit. If I had read this one first my opinion could be different. Also I was looking for an explanation to the connection of Rufus and Dana that never seemed to come. Why was she constantly saving him, likely the design was so he could create her ancestors…but there wasn’t a linear line to that conclusion. Looking forward to watching the series to see what creative liberties were taken.
