Charlemagne speaks to all of us without bias of race or gender or belief. It has been a long time since I have heard and listened to such a reasonable inclusive voice. Charlemagne does not care what your hobbies are, he wants you to be a reasonable human being. He encourages you to listen to other people and share with others. My being an old white man, found him full of wisdom and rational thoughts. Not everyone will welcome his perspective, but in my opinion, he is wise beyond his years, plain spoken, and YOU need to listen.

I think I am missing something here.

Sorry, but I am missing something here...I am at a loss as to why this is "One of the 50 greatest novels". It bored me to tears. It is a prime example of white privilege. It even used the "N" word (not unusual when the book was written but distasteful all the same). I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen, and it NEVER does. Wholly Crap!

Vague and an uncomfortable format

I struggled to finish the book. The format is a story followed by "analysis". The analysis is a little spotty and leaves a.lot of questions, in my mind at least, unanswered. This is not a text on AI.

Wheaton!

No matter what you think about the way Wil treats Sheldon, on and off, in TBBT. No matter what you think about the story that John Scalzi has penned. Wil Wheaton does an amazing job of narrating this novel and the other two books in the Interdependency series. Seriously he and the production staff deserve an Audie for this performance of all the characters and nuances of conversation. I laughed out loud many times at the turn of phrase that Wil puts on this series. I will have to investigate other books by Mr. Wheaton and so should you.

A great story, narrated well. One hopes that the prison system has moved on since this was written in the 60s. I remember seeing prisoners doing exactly this sort of work as a child in the deep south. This is one story behind one of those people.

More battlefield porn

Tangential and confusing flashbacks, theorizing, and rationalized battlefield porn. You just can't kill enough aliens. Took me forever to get through this. I literally had to force myself to listen to the droning violence. I truly hope that humanity is able to deal with an alien species in some other way than to simply slaughter them in front of their babies. What makes us think that a space faring species mus be mindlessly violent? Why aren't we a rational species in this future tale? Sheesh.
