Historia
Frances is a cool-headed and darkly observant young woman vaguely pursuing a career in writing while studying in Dublin. Her best friend and comrade-in-arms is the beautiful and endlessly self-possessed Bobbi. At a local poetry performance one night, Frances and Bobbi catch the eye of Melissa, a well-known photographer, and as the girls are then gradually drawn into Melissa's world, Frances is reluctantly impressed by the older woman's sophisticated home and tall, handsome husband, Nick.

Unlikable narcissists all around
Revisado: 01-01-25
I don’t think there was a single likable character in the book. Several aimless tangent storylines and a very abrupt ending. The woman reading the book was good though.

Historia
In 2010, the words “earthquake swarm” entered the lexicon in Oklahoma. That same year, a trove of Michael Jackson memorabilia—including his iconic crystal-encrusted white glove—was sold at auction for over $1 million to a guy who was, officially, just the lowly forestry minister of the tiny nation of Equatorial Guinea. And in 2014, Ukrainian revolutionaries raided the palace of their ousted president and found a zoo of peacocks, gilded toilets, and a floating restaurant modeled after a Spanish galleon.

Interesting & informative
Revisado: 10-12-22
Rachel Maddow has a unique gift for storytelling. She takes material that could be dull in someone else’s hands, and makes it gripping. She can take a complicated subject and break it down into something understandable, without oversimplifying. She knows how to weave together the past and the present and somehow, even when telling the story of greed, corruption, election interference and environmental disaster, she manages not to leave the reader in a pit of despair.
Rachel Maddow’s work always leaves you better informed and Blowout is no exception.

Historia
Our favorite books keep us company, give us hope, and help us find meaning in a chaotic world. In this fresh and relatable work, atheist chaplain Vanessa Zoltan blends memoir and personal growth as she grapples with the notions of family legacy and identity through the lens of her favorite novel, Jane Eyre.

Unique & Engaging
Revisado: 07-27-21
This was a very different and interesting book. The stories were engaging and provided a new way of looking at, relating to and finding meaning in an old text, flaws and all.
