Historia
Disgraced eldest sister Claire Summers has been living in exile as companion to a stern great-aunt in Scotland. About to lose her place and longing to be reconciled with her estranged family, Claire sees an advertisement from someone looking for a “respectable female partner” in a Sidmouth boarding house. Is it a sign? She answers the ad, hoping she has not made another reckless mistake. When she meets the handsome, secretive proprietor, she wonders what he’s hiding and if he’s any more trustworthy than the nobleman who betrayed her years ago.

So beautifully written
Revisado: 12-06-24
A poignant warm and rich story full of wonderful characters, repairing of relationships, love and community. I cried a few times with just how heartwarming some of the interactions were between the sisters.

Historia
When their father's death leaves them impoverished, Sarah Summers and her genteel sisters fear they will be forced to sell the house and separate to earn livelihoods as governesses or companions. Determined to stay together, Sarah convinces them to open their seaside home to guests to make ends meet and provide for their ailing mother. Instead of the elderly invalids they expect to receive, however, they find themselves hosting eligible gentlemen. Sarah is soon torn between a growing attraction to a mysterious Scottish widower and duty to her family.

A lovely story full of rich characters
Revisado: 07-02-23
I love the introduction of each sister and her unique personality and the development over the story of how each fits into the family. The author resolves the story line of one while also leaving readers in expectation of hopefully another book? I came to adore the character of Viola. I also loved the subtle hints and quotes for Jane Austen fans and yet the voice of the author remains distinct. I love the way Elizabeth Jasicki reads Klassen’s words. Effortless and draws you in. I highly recommend listening at 1.15 or 1.2 speed to get a good “conversational tone” to the narrator. I was sad to see this book end honestly and would love to see it be made into a tv series with each sister getting their own season to explore their character and story.

Historia
Rosalind Newbury is counting down the days until her wedding to the Duke of Marlow, a man she has only met twice. And the duke is a kind man who will care for Rosalind, even if he doesn’t love her.

What a delight! I love the character development in Miss Newbury’s List. It felt very natural and sweet. And I loved the family elements as well. I do hope we get a Duke of Marlow story in the future.

Great Prequel.
Revisado: 06-16-23
I loved this quick and light romance. Sally always has great character development. You can read it as a stand alone, I loved reading this one last in the series. But if you can’t wait, it would also be fun to read directly after Mr. Gardener and the Governess. It was like a slow burn getting hints of their love in other books and then finally getting to know their story. Also, Jessica Eliza Boyd is one of my favorite narrators and always adds life to the story when listening.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

What a courageously well written, profound account of Jennette’s experience. It was funny and moving and real. trigger warnings for anyone who struggles with ED’s, abuse, substance issues.

Delightful and heart-warming
Revisado: 08-26-20
This is the 3 book in the Ivy Hill series. Ms. Klassen is an expert story teller. And weaving the stories of residents of Ivy Hill masterfully. I selfishly want 4th book to be written so that some of the characters can find their happy endings as well.

Historia
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").
