Historia
The Yellowstone super-eruption has put an end to modern civilization. As cities and countries continue to fall, the colony of Rivendell in the alternate Earth known as Outland looks more and more like the only real hope for humanity. But life in Rivendell isn’t getting any simpler, either. Bill and Kevin continue to discover new worlds; the population continues to rise; winter is approaching; and everyone has their own opinion about how things should be run.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-29-23
How can a guy who writes such engrossing dialog spoil the whole thing by making his conspiricists so ludicrous? It's like he's marinading a hot dog.
Dennis E. Taylor has been an instant "buy" for me: until now.

Historia
The first wave was just the beginning. The United States is in ruins. It has just suffered one of the worst hurricanes in history; the people are demoralized, and the president is a religious fanatic. Then things get really bad - the Clickers return. Thousands of the monsters swarm across the entire nation and march inland, slaughtering anyone and anything they come across. But this time, the Clickers aren't blindly rushing onto land - they are being led by an intelligence older than civilization itself.

Historia
Sarah Wright knows she’s in for a rough week when a ghost asking for help is the least frightening thing with which she has to deal. A month after waking up as a vampire, unlife is feeling pretty sweet. Her mood swings are easing off, she’s got a decent boyfriend, and best of all, the parents let her slide on being lazy. They understand it’s a little awkward to keep a job when daylight can kill her. Oh, and the whole magical powers thing is pretty cool, too. But after two weeks of quiet, her new normal blooms into a chaotic mess.

This is a great read if you fantasize about LARPing feminist tropes.
“Matthew’s” women’s studies degree vandalizes an otherwise decent story.

Mixed Blessing
Revisado: 01-07-19
Be aware, the cast of characters are an infantile SJW wet dream. If you can get beyond that, the writing is good and Ray Porter maintains his position as my number one, favorite narrator.
JM is obviously trying to woo Hollywood with his stories these days, but hasn’t seemed to notice Hollywood is progressively alienating its customer base.

Historia
Terrorists-for-hire have created a weapon that can induce earthquakes and cause dormant volcanoes to erupt. One terrifying side effect of the weapon is that prior to the devastation, the vibrations drive ordinary people to suicide and violence. A wave of madness begins sweeping the country beginning with a mass shooting in Congress. Joe Ledger and his team go on a wild hunt to stop the terrorists and uncover the global superpower secretly funding them. At every step the stakes increase as it becomes clear that the endgame of this campaign of terror is igniting the Yellowstone caldera.

Time for JM to close out Joe Ledger
Revisado: 12-01-18
Unfortunately, the DMS and Joe Ledger are getting tired.
Incessant references to already written stories, peppered with Maberry’s own obviously growing “sophistication,” and passion for making sure his story checks all the right boxes are making Captain Ledger someone I just don’t care about anymore.
It’s been a fun ride, but I think this is my stop.

Historia
Since 9/11, more than 300 Americans - born and raised in Minnesota, Alabama, New Jersey, and elsewhere - have been indicted or convicted of terrorism charges. Some have taken the fight abroad: An American was among those who planned the attacks in Mumbai, and more than 80 US citizens have been charged with ISIS-related crimes. Others have acted on American soil, as with the attacks at Fort Hood, at the Boston Marathon, and in San Bernardino. What motivates them, how are they trained, and what do we sacrifice in our efforts to track them?

What would have made United States of Jihad better?
Not opening with the absurd equivalence of a murdered abortion doctor to ISIS's predations.
Would you ever listen to anything by Peter Bergen again?
Doubtful
What three words best describe Nicholas Guy Smith’s voice?

What disappointed you about A Concise History of the Arabs?
Might have well been "A Concise History of the Trayvon Martin Case" by Rev. Al Sharpton.
What could John McHugo have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I found his sanctimonious preface particularly noteworthy.

Historia
This book is a crash course in effective reasoning, meant to catapult you into a world where you start to see things as they really are, not how you think they are. The focus of this book is on logical fallacies, which, loosely defined, are simply errors in reasoning. By listening to this book, you can make significant improvements in the way you reason and make decisions.

An audio version of a soup can label.
Revisado: 04-08-12
What disappointed you about Logically Fallacious: The Ultimate Collection of Over 300 Logical Fallacies?
I was most disappointed to find this book was more of a catalog than something that works well in the audio format. A series of quasi-connected bullet-points does NOT make for a good listen.
Would you ever listen to anything by Bo Bennett again?
Not a chance. It quickly becomes apparent Mr. Bennett is a student of the subject, not a master. He has studied logic as a means to an end, not an end in itself.
Case in point: while describing the
How could the performance have been better?
I found the affected accents for the straw men Mr. Bennett used for a foil particularly offensive.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I felt cheated. There is nothing here I could not have found on my own for free on the Internet. There is neither a interesting presentation of the material, nor is there any compelling reason to favor Mr. Bennett's presentation of the material.
Any additional comments?
NEVER buy an audiobook before listening to the excerpt. Excitement over the subject has disappointed me more often than not.

Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Backed by years of research and delivered in lively, energetic prose, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception.
