Is no one talking about the racial stereotypes depicted in this novel? I couldn’t even get through this as the racist depictions made me so uncomfortable. Wish I could give this 0 stars.

Historia
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Enjoyed everything but the ending
Revisado: 11-25-24
Great novel with interesting characters and captivating plot. Without giving away any spoilers, I felt the ending really fell flat. While the “twist” was surprising, I felt like the ending was hurried over by the author. Not sure if there will be a part 2, so it would have been nice to wrap up the loose ends.

This might be the official end to the series, but we're not quite finished yet. Stay tuned for some very interesting bonus content, and a few ...

Simone used to be the woman that other women would use if they suspected that their partner was cheating. She would investigate, find out the truth, and if the men were guilty, exact revenge. But after things went wrong with one couple, Simone was forced to go into hiding. Simone is now Mary, a mild-mannered woman who doesn't raise her voice or get angry, meaning nobody would suspect her of being capable of the things she used to do for a living. Unpopular opinion, but this was not a good novel. I felt like there were so many holes in the storyline that were never explored. The ending was abrupt and left a lot of questions. I’d pass on this one!

The Narrator is awful
Revisado: 07-17-24
I couldn’t even finish this one. The plot sounded promising but the narrator’s voice is absolutely awful. Not only does her voice not fit the description of the main character (sounds like a tween) it is distracting and makes this novel unlistenable. I love Freida McFadden but the voice actor ruined this one for me and I couldn’t get through it.

Not quite sure how to rate this objectively
Revisado: 07-15-24
Long review and maybe some spoilers if you read on.
I found the first 3/4 of this novel very enjoyable. The character development and plot line was interesting and I found myself engrossed in the story. It is last part of the novel that really didn’t sit right with me.
First of all, the “twist” was not at all believable. It was too easily explained away and really wasn’t at all realistic. No one told this lady what had happened all those years before? Not one ounce of town gossip made it back to her? Every friend and family member kept this revaluation hushed? Unbelievable!
And the way the story was wrapped up so neat and tidy. Everyone got what they wanted and lived happily ever after in a blissful world. The author clearly didn’t do much research on childhood trauma and the complex realities of children who are in foster care or emergency placement.
I gave the storyline 3-stars as the first part was a great listen. The narrators were excellent as well.
