Historia
In this pathbreaking audiobook, ethnographer Staci Newmahr delves into the social space of a public, pansexual SM community to understand sadomasochism from the inside out. Based on four years of in-depth and immersive participant observation, she juxtaposes her experiences in the field with the life stories of community members, providing a richly detailed portrait of SM as a social space in which experiences of "violence" intersect with experiences of the erotic.

Great Information
Revisado: 03-25-25
I really enjoyed that the author included both interviews and her first hand experiences. This made it relatable. As someone new to this, it echoed some of my experiences. it also introduced new ideas, terms, and information. I will research some of it more and some of it I will try as soon as I can. I think this book normalized kink exploration.
I will be reading this title again.
This book has a lot of great advice and points out things to consider.
To others on this journey go slow. You'll be surprised what you will learn about yourself. Try things that you wouldn't normally try. COMMUNICATE! Have a good time playing! And educate yourself though books like this, people, feedback, classes, community events, etc.
Have fun!

Historia
Approval Junkie brings her laugh-out-loud, often tender recollections of the turbulent emotional waters of adolescence and adulthood to listeners. It is a no-holds-barred look into Salie's very relatable journey to self-acceptance, learning that the only person she ever truly needs to impress is herself.

Loved it!

Very relatable. I both laughed and I cried. Sometimes it was too real and others it was unreal. The account of struggle and strife mixed with enjoyment and celebration warmed me.

Not the best book in audio form. I truly enjoyed the humor in it though.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Favorite audiobook thus far!
Revisado: 03-19-22
There is so much helpful information in this book. I plan to listen to this selection many more times as well as read some of the books from the author's reading list. The author keeps things real while being entertaining, frank, and expressive with her choice of language. At times the editing of the recording could have been better but it doesn't take away from the wit and overall message of the book at all.
