Creepy!

This plot may have been more acceptable some fifty years ago when this was written. However, the idea of a thirty something man marrying a 17 year old girl is shocking today. The bride is a smart but very silly young woman, which would be okay but she marries a much older, smarter and more sophisticated aristocrat who, while having a great deal of affection for her, still delights in playing tricks on her that cause her much distress. Looks like emotional abuse to me! Nonetheless, she loves him dearly and blames herself for everything her husband does.

Additioally, the plot rambles and includes a lot of farcical content which I didn't find very funny. Won't try any more Georgette Heyer.

So Good You Don't Notice Plot Holes

This little romance is so much fun that I didn't mind the plot holes and irrational choices the characters make. Gigi and Camden are delightful as a warring couple whom we know really do love each other. The writing is lush and lovely.

Plot Difficult to Follow

The first few chapters move between several different settings and characters without any explanation as to how they are related to each other. By the time the narrative returns to the first character introduced, I had forgotten most of the first chapter. Additionally, the narrator, though good at doing character voices, generally reads too quickly for comfort. I gave up after about 5 chapters and returned it.

Not what I expected

I bought this expecting a sort of Blithe Spirit romp, but the ghost is barely in it. When he does he appear he' is dull. The rest consists of the typical country house party murder but none of the characters is interesting. I returned it.

Disappointing Sequel

I like Messina's novels for her impossibly scrappy heroines and improbable, but hilarious, situations they find themselves in. This story lacks both those features. A supporting character from the Harlow Hoyden is promoted to a leading character but her personality changes so much that she might as well be someone new.

The story starts with an awkward meeting between the heroine and her soon to be love interest. Unfortunately, neither character's behavior makes any sense in this initial scene, so the consequences of this meeting make no sense either.

It's a rare miss for Messina.

Couldn't listen to narrator

This might be a good mystery but I could only listen for about a minute due to very unpleasant narrator.
