Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Disappointing: Not much of a mystery
Revisado: 06-03-16
Deeply flawed characters who behave recklessly create major problems for themselves. No surprises there! The female characters are difficult to like. The male characters don't think or behave like normal men. There are three actors/readers and one is better than the other two. There are too few characters to make for a good mystery. Not recommended.

Dull, slow, and long-winded
Revisado: 10-19-15
The synopsis created the perception that this novel was a supernatural thriller center around an archeological dig. Most of that is accurate, but it certainly isn't a thriller.
It might be more of a romance novel, which isn't a genre that appeals to me. If that's the case, then it's a tepid, slow-moving love story. The elements for a good story are all there, but it never comes together. Instead the story rambles on at a snail's pace, then it wraps up very fast with much left unanswered, like the author had a deadline to meet. Perhaps that's left to a sequel, but I've already wasted enough time on this author. Not recommended for anyone.

Enjoyable, but definitely written for women
Revisado: 12-11-14
After listening to Just One Damned Thing After Another, I recommended it to my wife. It sets up what might be a good series that I believe she'll enjoy. The story is action-packed and fast-paced. There are few, if any, dull moments. I enjoyed this book and I recommend it, though I think it's appeal to male listeners will be limited. Still, those that stay with it until the end can recommend it with confidence to the women in their lives. I will be checking out the next book soon to see if that perception changes as the characters evolve.

Don't give up on this book!!
Revisado: 03-10-14
I loved all of Daniel Suarez's previous books. They were brilliant techno-thrillers based on technologies that are not far removed from reality. Anyone who enjoyed "Daemon" now looks at Google Glass from a different perspective. He's a brilliant author. That's why I was worried when "Influx" was too techie for me, a 30-year veteran of the high-tech industry. Suarez introduces the technology in his story with a degree of accuracy and information that can overwhelm the casual reader or listener. DO NOT LET THIS TURN YOU AWAY!
Very quickly, the engineering lesson is over and a first-rate thriller emerges. This is a very entertaining story if you can get past the initial lecture. I feel this story will not be as popular as his previous books because some people will be turned off by first few chapters. That's too bad, because "Influx" has all of the brilliance we've come to expect from Daniel Suarez.

"Scare Me" didn't. No suspense, just violence
Revisado: 02-06-14
Scare Me is a dreadful story that wastes a pretty decent performance by the reader. The plot is highly contrived. The violence is needlessly graphic. There are major characters in the book who serve no purpose in the storyline. The international scope of the story is absurd since there is no hint of where the characters would acquire the resources to travel about as they do. The ending is so unsatisfying that it hints of a sequel in the works. Of course, I have absolutely no desire to read a sequel should one come out, so that's pointless too.

Hailed by literary critics as the inventor of modern-day horror, H. P. Lovecraft is the cultivating force behind such modern writers as Robert Bloch, Wes Craven and Stephen King. The Dark Worlds of H. P. Lovecraft, Volume One is a collection of his best-known tales narrated for the first time by Wayne June and includes both "The Dunwich Horror" (published in the summer of 1926) and "The Call of Cthulhu" (published in the summer of 1928).

It served its purpose, but I don't recommended it
Revisado: 11-03-13
I wanted to learn more about H.P. Lovecraft and this audiobook served that purpose. With all due respect to Lovecraft fans, the story and the storytelling as very dated. Lovecraft may be the godfather of modern horror, but his storytelling style is low on action and heavy of retelling third-hand information. The stories have sketchy beginnings and no satisfying endings. His racial attitudes are a historical reflection of the times, but they do not endear us to the author or the story. H.P. Lovecraft's books are historically important in the world of modern literature, but their entertainment value has faded. The production values for this audiobook reflect this too.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

At long last, a sequel to "The Shining"
Revisado: 11-03-13
This story stands out because it's a sequel to a story that wasn't intended to have a sequel. We're fortunate that Stephen King waiting three decades to write this book. Dan Torrence has age in real time, just as Stephen King and his readers have aged. It has the feel of a really creepy reunion. The story is strong, well-crafted, and a worthy of following The Shining. The reading is exceptional. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook!

Wasn't a fan at first, but it quickly grew on me!
Revisado: 10-06-13
I'll start off by admitting that I had forgotten that this book was written by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. I'm listening to this book and thinking it's just "a little too British", but the story is entertaining. By the end of the book, none of that mattered. Good storytelling, an entertaining mystery, and an outstanding reading by Robert Glenister led me to go online to find out what else Robert Galbraith had written. Boy did I feel foolish!
I'm looking forward to the next book. Strike and Robin are great characters and I'm eager to see how they develop in the sequels that are sure to come.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Revisado: 11-25-12
14 is a very good story and a well-executed audiobook. The story starts off a little slow as the tenants begin to investigate the events at their apartment building. But that allows the characters to develop and gets the listener into the story. And then the story takes off in unpredictable and utterly enjoyable directions. Highly recommended!
