Historia
The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, near New York City, the novel depicts first-person narrator Nick Carraway's interactions with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and Gatsby's obsession with reuniting with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan. The novel was inspired by a romance Fitzgerald had with socialite Ginevra King, and the riotous parties he attended on Long Island's North Shore in 1922.

Narrator No Good
Revisado: 07-08-24
The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books and I read it every year. I had to listen to it this year, however, and I was completely taken out of the story by the narrator. The choice of a Brit for this classic American novel about a golden age in American history is... odd. Additionally, the narrator took strange pauses in the middle of sentences, as though he took just a little too long to turn the page. This happened quite a bit. All the characters had a - hard to describe - soft quality, I guess, that didn't fit most of their personalities. This book deserves better than this narrator.

Good Study for Intermediate Students NOT Beginners
Revisado: 02-09-21
Good for review of techniques when you can't physically do them, for instance, when driving in the car and studying for a rank examination or when a pandemic shuts down all the judo dojos in the state and you haven't practiced with a person in a year. However, there are a few mistakes that would be confusing for a beginner who didn't know the techniques described before reading/listening. The most irritating thing, though, is that the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce the Japanese names of things - pretty important for a book about judo - and pronounces many of those words inconsistently throughout. It's one thing simply not to know how to pronounce Japanese correctly, but to have 2-4 different pronunciations for many words is too confusing.

Historia
When H. G. Wells first published The War of The Worlds in 1898, the novel quickly became a sci-fi classic. The story of extraterrestrials from Mars invading Earth captured the public’s imagination, inspiring a famed 1938 radio broadcast with Orson Welles, several feature films, countless video games, and a best-selling musical concept album by Jeff Wayne in 1978, among others.

Music Doesn't Work
Revisado: 08-02-20
A classic story with a great cast (everything Michael Sheen touches turns to gold). But the music in this musical drama was more distracting to me than anything else. It had some beneficial effects in certain places but it was overall detrimental to my experience.
