The narrator does a wonderful job! The story is amazing and its point should not be lost on anyone. It would be funnier if the parallels in this book didn't model our current president (or lack thereof) so closely.

He had been named one of the best new chefs in America by Food & Wine in 2002, received the James Beard Foundation Rising Star Chef of the Year Award in 2003, and in 2005 he and Nick Kokonas opened the conceptually radical restaurant Alinea, which was named Best Restaurant in America by Gourmet magazine. Then, Achatz was diagnosed with stage IV squamous cell carcinoma - tongue cancer.

Simply Amazing Book!

I cannot recommend this book enough. It is extremely exciting and detailed. You learn what a class act Grant and Nick must be. If you love food (real food) and have a desire to know how cooking really comes about and how a restaurant is put together then you'll love this book.

Bitter, Bitter, and Bitter!

I was hoping to like this book. Michael Ruhlman was 1/3rd right when he said the last part of the title should have been "bitter" rather than "butter." I have never heard a grown adult complain so much. The book is self narrated which makes you despise the author even more. (Her voice is extremely apathetic so listening to it is extremely hard.) She is vulgar and extremely crass. I'm no prude--but this woman is no lady--furthest thing from it. Her resentment toward her mother and husband is too much to take. Umm...if you are going to have a sham marriage for green card puposes maybe you shouldn't have expectations of love, affection, and for the love of god don't have children. throughout the book, she writes such redundant passages and waxes about her amazing abilities to complete the simplest of tasks. I was so glad to finish it. my recommendation...get grant achatz's life on the line and read about a real class act...not this %&*$@!

Horrible....Boring....So repetitive.

I didn't listen to the other negative reviews about what a blatant and overstuffed puff piece this book was. I wish i had. this book should have been reduced to an article. the author practically repeats the same points hundreds if not thousands of times. not worth your time.
