Half of the narration could have been better

I found this book after listening to Wolfgang narrating another story. I've only gotten through book one of this series so far, but his performance is still top notch! The female narrator on the other hand... I'm not sure why, but every single time she voices Matthias, she makes him sound either disgusted by or angry at Mack. It's very distracting, and I found myself gritting my teeth every time the story switched to her. She has a very pleasant voice, but I think she could use some voice acting classes cause she really sucks at conveying proper emotions. I'm hoping that the narration, on her part, gets better as the series continues, but my hopes aren't that high. Now, settling in with Wolfgang's voice for the next five books....I think the struggle is worth it!

Story-wise, I'm glad that she's not "as" weak as she could have been, but she could have been better. The whole story just kinda felt like it was dragging. It was intriguing enough to hold the majority of my interest, but if the rest of the books drag a much, I'll probably not finish the series.

Pretty good

I didn't like it as much as the previous book or the Colony series, but it's not bad. I was a bit confused why when the first time we met Angela's family, Grandpa sounded Creole, but then when they transported off of the planet, he was Indian. Side effect of being cured of cancer, maybe? Anyway, I'll continue listening to the series, most likely!

Boring snoozefest

I fell in love with the Crossfire series. I was hoping that this one would be similar, but I was SO wrong! This story is very drab, and the narration makes it much worse. The only similarity to the Crossfire series is that Gideon and Eva have a few appearances/mentions. The story does not flow as well, and I found myself easily annoyed the instant that the narrator for Aliyah or Amy started speaking. The Amy narrator is just obnoxious, but the Aliyah narrator is HORRIBLE. I don't mind her accent, but the way that she reads the book is so confusing and uninteresting. She paused at the wrong times and emphasized the wrong words. I couldn't get sucked into anything she said, and I found myself sighing out loudly in exasperation every time I heard her start a chapter. Simon was the only decent narrator, and I would listen to him again. Unfortunately, for the very first time in my entire life, I refuse to finish this book unless it gets re-recorded. The Crossfire narrators were amazing. Should have used them again. One star, two thumbs down, big 'ol giant raspberry! Sorry, Sylvia.

I wish this book could be re-recorded...

I really do wish it was possible to have this book re-recorded. While the narrator may do a good job on other books, she is absolutely hands down the wrong narrator for this story! I couldn't get into it because all of her random accents. All of a sudden Rhys is Indian, and several of the others now have European accents. I couldn't even keep track of who was who. I had to keep rewinding because I missed a lot. I've listened to this series so many times, and every time I always skip this book, mostly because of the storyline but also because of the narration change, (though I didn't mind as much when Claudia Black narrated Swallowing Darkness). I had forgotten what this narrator sounded like. Recently I decided to "re-read" it, and I should have stopped after Divine Misdemeanors like I usually do. It's just so hard to listen to!

According to Laurell K. Hamilton, Merry's sorry isn't over. I really hope that she can get Laural Merlington back for it. She had SO much range with the different characters, especially the men!

Seen it before, but STILL a great tale...

Though I am not a big fan of apocalyptic stories, especially zombie ones, I absolutely loved this book. It kept me sucked in through the entire story!

Now, first of all, it has to be said. The whole "follow multiple people through their journey during the apocalypse" story has been told many times over. But having it done Jamie McGuire style changed it up for me a little bit. And the fact that Emma Galvin (Beautiful Disaster/A Beautiful Wedding) and Zachary Webber (A Beautiful Wedding) returned after the Beautiful Disaster series was an EXCELLENT treat, since they are two of my favorite narrators! The only downside to that being that I kept slipping into Abby/Travis mode lol.

When the breakout first began, my starting thought was, "NO, HER KIDS!" I had no idea that the entire book would end up being a buildup just for her kids return. I do think that it got to be a little bit on the obsessive side with that. This woman basically risked the lives of others for her own children, and part of me thought, how selfish of her. The other part of me thought, I would do the same damn thing for my daughter, if I were in Scarlet's shoes.

When we got into Nathan's story, the only thing I wanted was to see his wife walking down the street as a "Ted", and have him blow her brains out. She just walked out on him and their daughter, Zoey, and I was hoping for some revenge on their part (maybe in a book #2? hint hint, nudge nudge). But when they come together with Nathan's brother-in-law and his wife, I help hope. That fell too, but that was partly redeemed in the end.

My favorite character out of the entire story was Miranda. Oh Miranda, Miranda, Miranda...It was kinda sweet that she met the apocalypse with the love of her life, Bryce, but the way their relationship changed, and the new interest...it was all way too depressing for me. The situation with Ashley and Cooper was extremely maddening for me in two ways. First, what Cooper did for Zoey was amazing. Second, the end result of that decision, was depressing. It's hard to be mad at a child, especially a non-fiction one, but in that instant I was angry with Zoey as well as Cooper. I really wish that the story of Miranda, Bryce, Ashley and Cooper had gone a VERY different way.

The ending of this book definitely leaves room for a sequel, and I hope Jamie writes one! I was very sad and depressed for a few days after finishing this book, but it has earned its 5 stars from me. Great story, well written, perfect narrators!

Definitely torn apart...

Once again, Megan breaks our hearts. In my opinion, this book, "Deeper" and "Broken" should be in a series of their own. This is definitely one of the tearjerker books of the series, and though it doesn't disappoint, it totally crushes a reader.

In the true tradition of the two books listed above, "Tear You Apart" lives up to the title. Elisabeth is a product of a broken home, though no one will admit it. Two kids away at college, and a husband who is nearly non-existent. A boss who could have been her lover, and an artist to steals her heart. Throughout the story, she tries to find herself, and figure out just what will make her truly happy. She makes mistakes along the way, but in the end, in order to become happy, she must break and lose everything.

This book will definitely take you on a roller coaster of emotions, and just when you think everything is about to settle into place, your heart will shatter. Great story, well written, and still staying true to Megan Hart's style, though the love scenes seem to be more about addiction than actual desire.

My heart is broken...now I am going to go read something more lighthearted lol...

OH...MY...GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!

I was definitely thrown off by the order that these books were released, because they do read in order. Book 5 was released before book 4, and I believe book book 3 came out before book 2, but having read book 5 before 4, I was definitely impatient waiting for it to come out. I am so happy that I found this series, cause its hot, with a capital HOT!

I am a total sucker for a musician, which is probably why this series is my favorite when it comes to rockers! Olivia kills it every damn time! This is one of my favs from the Sinners series. There is just something about drummers and bassists that makes me.............yeah!

After the soundboard operator, Dave, is injured in the bus crash, his sister Rebekah steps in to take over the reigns...temporarily. But even though she is uninvited, unwanted, and even sabotaged, she still manages to pull through. You gotta love the strength of this chick, cause she puts up with a lot. Then again, what Sinners chick doesn't?

Eric has always been one of my favorite characters, which is why I am glad that his story rocked so hard! The fact that Rebekah wanted Trey kinda flew me at first, but she ended up where she belonged. I do love how it's easy to stay in tune to the entire story, and the whole band. Every time I read a new book, its easy to pick up where the last left off, no matter how much time has gone by in the story or in real life.

To put out a spoiler, without spoiling the book, I want to say that my favorite moment was when Eric responded to something in his mic to Rebekah, that was only meant for her ears, but was overheard throughout the audience. Classic! The interaction between these two characters is hilarious, and I am in love with them!

I don't know how many times i have read these books, but if they were on paper, I would definitely wear out the binding! I am anxiously awaiting book 6, Sinners at the Alter!!!

I need more!

I am a big Megan Hart fan, and this series is by far, one of my favorites of all time. I love how every book revisits with at least one character from a previous book, and ties all of the stories together. This one is no different. We get to see Johnny D and Em again (and find out that they have had their baby), as well as Joe and Sadie (and imho, an unwelcome reentry of one of Joe's former story subjects), all 4 of which have been some of my favorite characters from the past.

Aside from the blasts from the past, we become more familiar with the Morningstar Mocha coffee shop itself, from behind the scenes. The way that Tesla and Meredith get together is a big tease, i think. But when everything comes out, its not what I was expecting to happen. However, the way that the story unfolds is pretty predictable.

At first, I was pretty fond of Meredith, and somewhat distrustful towards Charlie, but that definitely changed about midway through the story. However, it was inevitable, seeing as how situations like this always flip around. Sometimes people want something so bad, that their selfishness blows up in their own face, as it did with Meredith.

I wish there was more details on the history between Tesla and Vic, because it just feels like there is more to it all, other than what they say. His reasoning between why he didn't want his wife to know about his previous career, and why he seemed so ashamed of it, even though he wanted to get back into it. I would also like to know more about Tesla's brother, Captain. He needs his own book, I think.

Love scenes are pretty hot. as usual, without going overboard. I do wish that more had happened at the sex club though. There was so much potential for things that could have happened, but didn't. I was kind of bored through that part, and had to rewind a couple if times to get through it.


All in all, another great story. Two thumbs up, five stars and all that jazz. Keep it rocking Megan!

Not your typical Megan Hart...

Ever since my first Megan Hart book (Broken), I have become obsessed with her heartbreaking love stories. I have been debating this book since before it came out, but once it did, there was no question about if I would or would not purchase it.

I do not "regret" the purchase, but this story just felt so.....tame. When comparing to the rest of Megan's books, this one is minimally sexual. It's not steamy in the least, and the sexual encounters are barely there, and not erotic at all. I do love the story line, and the history between the two main characters, but it never made me shed a tear, like I usually do with Megan's books when she gives you something good, breaks it, then gives it back. I do love the fact that these aren't some young 20 somethings that fall in love with each other a week after meeting.

The flashbacks and flashforwards are kind of confusing, and you really have to be paying attention when they come. She says "then" when there is about to be a flashback, but there is no warning when coming back to current time. I had to rewind a few times to understand what happened when.

The relationship with the twins was confusing at times, and I was disappointed that one of them only appeared in the story, in the flashbacks. It would have been interesting to see him interact with his family in current times.

Lastly, the narrator was not horrible, but she does not do a male voice very well. When you have to range between a 12yo boy up to an 80+yo woman, you should have a bit of a better range. It almost always sounded like a whiny girl making voices. Not to say I would never listen to another book narrated by Suzy Lexington again, but I just don't think that she did as well with this one, as she could have.

Good book, but not as great as the previous two

I have been anticipating the release of this book, as have SO many others. Sylvia promised via live chat that many questions would be answered in this book, and yet, many of those questions were not even really touched.

One of the redeeming factors is that, we still have the same narrator, Jill Redfield. So many long series books have multiple readers, and that's just confusing. I love the way Jill brings these characters to life! It makes it easy for me to see each person separately in my head.

Another redeeming factor, is that the series is very well written. Sylvia is a seasoned writer, and she knows how to make a story believable! I have read other similar books (yes, like 50 shades), and many of them are very poorly written. This book is very well done, as are the rest, as far as detailing, story line, etc. However, this book almost felt as if Sylvia was trying to rush through it. It felt so short, compared to the previous two books.

One downside with this book is, it felt like 95% of the time Gideon and Eva were together, they were having sex. Last time I checked, this was a romance novel, not pure erotica. SLOW DOWN, just a little bit, please! Yes the couple is hot. Yes, the story is steamy. But we get it, they cant get enough of each other. Can we get to the rest of the BS now please?

I still love this series, and I still love Sylvia's books, and I will continue to buy them. And I will still eagerly await the final two books, but I must say, this one is so far, the most disappointing. I really did not want to give a negative review on this one, but I had no choice.


Why would i give it 5 stars all around with such a negative review, you ask? I still think its 5 star worthy...sorry
