From the best-selling author of The Fish That Ate the Whale, Sweet and Low, and Tough Jews comes Make Your Own Mistakes, a candid, short memoir that chronicles Rich Cohen’s transition to young adulthood in New York City and beyond. Both amusing and thoughtful, this is the story of Rich’s quest to lead a life outside the confines of his father’s dream for him.

Loved the book & the narration
Revisado: 06-16-23
I sure got a good glimpse of life in New York City and the struggles & sacrifices one has to make to live there. So glad the author escaped & found peace and prosperity away from the concrete jungle

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Historia
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.

I was surprised how much I liked this book
Revisado: 12-22-20
This is a complex story but the writer serves us the characters in a little buffet allowing each individual to be thoroughly developed. The hardships the girls endured and their resiliency is extraordinary and so foreign to our modern comfortable lives. The writer has recreated the era with clever description and dialogue and the use of individual narrators for each character makes for a more entertaining listen

I loved this book!
Revisado: 12-14-20
This story was so interesting and captivating that I often found myself going back and re-reading many parts describing how the author survived as a young child lost in unfamiliar and hostile areas of India. His eventual adoption and relocation to a foreign country was stark contrast to his humble beginnings in rural India

This story flip flops from era to era
Revisado: 09-18-20
I had a difficult following the era and characters. Since I don't listen continuously it was difficult to keep up with the timeline. Many stories do have flashbacks but this one was confusing to me. The theme of womens oppression through the ages is an important topic & makes the point well

Historia
Samantha Irby meets Bettyville in this darkly funny and poignant memoir about love, loss, Alzheimer's, and reviving her father's pornographic writing career, from writer and Mortified live producer Sara Faith Alterman. In this cringeworthy, hilarious, and moving memoir, Sara shares the profound experience of discovering new facets of her father; once as a child, and again as an adult. Let's Never Talk About This Again is a must-hear confessional from a woman who spent years trying to find humor in the perverse and optimism in the darkness, and succeeded.

Revisado: 08-07-20
The way the author writes and narrates this book made me feel like I met a new friend and she shared her upbringing wih me. I found it interesting and not at all boring compared to many stories that lag and you force yourself to keep going to the end. Occasionally you read a book that makes you laugh, cry and sad when the story ends. This book is one of those and I'm going to miss her brilliant writing

At 28, Stephanie Land's dreams of attending a university and becoming a writer quickly dissolved when a summer fling turned into an unplanned pregnancy. Before long, she found herself a single mother, scraping by as a housekeeper to make ends meet. Maid is an emotionally raw, masterful account of Stephanie's years spent in service to upper-middle-class America as a "nameless ghost" who quietly shared in her clients' triumphs, tragedies, and deepest secrets.

A pleasant read but not captivating
Revisado: 04-06-19
I was not anxious to get back to reading this book but when I start something I'm determine to finish. It is an inspiring success story but thought too much repetition describing the writer's poverty and relationship. Came across as 'filler' rather than getting ahead with the process of moving forward in her life.
