Historia
Is our national debt really a threat? What is a “mild” recession, exactly? If you’re worried about your bank account balance, job security, or mortgage rate, what data should you be keeping tabs on? For anyone trying to make sense of disorienting headlines, there’s no better interpreter than Kyla Scanlon. Through her trademark blend of witty illustrations, creative analogies, and insights from behavioral economics, literature, and philosophy, Scanlon breaks down everything you need to know about how money and markets really work.

Great entry level book..

I have children and nieces/nephews who I will suggest this book to. Kyla is very bright and I think wise beyond her years. Her delivery style and analogies will make economics approachable, especially for 20-somethings…

Historia
Bernard Cornwell, the New York Times best-selling "reigning king of historical fiction" (USA Today), tackles his most thrilling, rich, and enthralling subject yet - the heroic tale of Agincourt. The epic battle immortalized by William Shakespeare in his classic Henry V is the background for this breathtaking tale of heroism, love, devotion, and duty from the legendary author of the Richard Sharpe novels and the Saxon Tales.

Outstanding, Cornwall delivers again
Revisado: 01-09-24
I went into this with reasonable expectations. I like the Last Kingdom Netflix series and loved the Warlord Chronicles books. I thought it would be hard for Cornwell to deliver on that level again. But, he definitely did! Strong characters, tight story telling, atmospheric and enough hard history to have one feeling informed as well as entertained. Agincourt is a hidden gem. Stick around for the historical epilogue.

Historia
Oliver Twist is one of the most well-known stories ever told, about a young orphan who has to survive the mean streets of London before ultimately being rescued by a kindly benefactor.
But it is his friend, the Artful Dodger, who has the far more intriguing tale, filled with more adventure and excitement than anything boring Oliver could possibly get up to. Throw in some vampires and a plot to overthrow the British monarchy, and what you have is the thrilling account that Charles Dickens was too scared to share with the world.

Fun romp
Revisado: 11-21-23
I usually like things that are played more seriously, but this blended some favorite characters and a high flying plot in a fun mix. Don’t take it seriously and you’ll have a great time with Artful.
I’ve always thought the artful dodger was way more interesting than Oliver Twist and I’m glad to see others agree!

Historia
The year is 1703, and Matthew Corbett, professional "problem solver", is missing. Last seen by his friends in New York before he departed on a lucrative, seemingly straightforward mission for the Herrald Agency in Charles Town, he's been too long absent. His comrade-in-arms Hudson Greathouse has an increasing sense the young friend he thinks of as a son must have met with some unexpected peril.

Historia
When Dungeons & Dragons was first released to a small hobby community, it hardly seemed destined for mainstream success—and yet this arcane tabletop role-playing game became an unlikely pop culture phenomenon. In Game Wizards, Jon Peterson chronicles the rise of Dungeons & Dragons from hobbyist pastime to mass market sensation, from the initial collaboration to the later feud of its creators, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson.

more good stuff from Peterson
Revisado: 12-12-22
I've read/listened to several books covering the history of DnD. This is the first where I felt that I came away with a good sense of the personalities of the primary 'players' involved. While history is often rather dry, based simply on what can be proven from papertrails, Peterson has taken the time to interview people and look at the correspondence and interactions to get a sense of what the actual relationships may have been. Of course, nobody paints themselves as the 'bad guy' and I think Peterson has done a fine job of navigating the choppy seas of interpersonal relationships to give the reader an idea what the personal dynamics were like.
Like many other stories of ventures taken up with goodwill and trust, TSR struggled to make the transition to a serious business. The story is a great insight into what American culture was like back then as well. Having lived through it myself, I sometimes forget how difficult times could be and what a 'wild west' the business culture was like. This book is a great window into a nascent subculture that would go on to be a dominant force in pop culture decades later.

Historia
The original Dungeons & Dragons released by TSR (Tactical Studies Rules) in 1974 created a radical new medium: the role-playing game. For the next two decades, TSR rocketed to success. But by 1997, a series of ruinous choices and failed projects brought TSR to the edge of doom—only to be saved by their fiercest competitor, Wizards of the Coast. Unearthed from Ben Riggs’s own adventurous campaign of in-depth research, interviews with major players, and acquisitions of secret documents, Slaying the Dragon reveals the true story of the rise and fall of TSR.

Right blend of business and anecdotes
Revisado: 12-03-22
Entertaining with the right blend of corporate analysis and pertinent anecdotes. Riggs really does love the subject matter and addresses the personalities involved with the dignity they deserve. This easily could have become a hatchet job on Lorraine Williams, but Riggs refrained from that temptation. He manages to deliver a mature story where each player has depth of character and can be viewed with sympathy.

Historia
At the end of The Winter, King Arthur fought the battle that forces unity on the warring British kingdoms and now he sets out to face the real enemy - the English (it is one of the great ironies of the Arthur stories that he should have become an English hero when, if he existed at all, he was a great war-leader who opposed the invading Sais). First, though, Merlin leads a perilous expedition into the mysterious west to retrieve a cauldron, one of the treasures of Britain.

Historia
The tale begins in Dark Age Britain, a land where Arthur has been banished and Merlin has disappeared, where a child-king sits unprotected on the throne, where religion vies with magic for the souls of the people. It is to this desperate land that Arthur returns, a man at once utterly human and truly heroic: a man of honor, loyalty, and amazing valor; a man who loves Guinevere more passionately than he should; a man whose life is at once tragic and triumphant.

One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to.
Revisado: 01-24-22
For someone who is a fan of low magic fantasy, I can’t recommend this book enough. Regardless of whether you’re into Arthurian myth or not, it’s a well structured, compelling story. I would sit in the car sometimes after arriving at my destination to get to a good stopping point.
And this is also one of the best reading performances that I’ve heard in a while. The reader did an excellent job, especially at the climactic moments and wonderfully conveyed the urgency, fear and rage of battle.
