Not my cup of tea.

The story was ok. It was a bit convoluted and I always have difficulty with time jumping (I wish novelists would leave that device behind, honestly). I did love the premise of living inside the library. But the thing that was off putting was the story thread of lesbian romance. Now, it isn’t that I thought it was badly done, but it is just something I choose not to read…not my cup of tea…and I would not have bought the book if it had been labeled as such. Surely this book needs to be tagged LGBT. Just kind of disappointed. Just not what I expected. The narration was outstanding.

Vividly painted picture of life of Smoky Mountain settlers around the time before it became a National Park. Really enjoyed the story, woven from true to life vignettes. I’ll read this again.

This was a thought provoking account of the religious Right, and the state of the evangelical church. The explanation of how the church became radical showed that it did not happen in a vacuum and that extremism from the left pushed it in that direction. Understanding this might cause folks on both sides to be more humble. Much to reflect on here.

This one just didn't catch me. In fact, I started it three times. At the end, it was a reasonably decent "fluff" mystery...but not one that kept me riveted.

Story was ok, but this series just leaves me wanting a bit more. Narrator was good though, so I'd look for her again. It didn't help that the app fiasco happened in the middle of this and lost my place not once but twice. Not sure I'll bother with the next book in the series.

A good story, well worth the listen. A little slow in spots, but overall very engaging. Not a typical WW2 story.

While this was at times entertaining, and somewhat funny, it was not really to my liking. It was more a series of short stories than a cohesive novel. I find the narration a bit slow, and a bit of a drone. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Only an insider like Kranz could give detail on every aspect of the developing space program. This book sucked me in and I enjoyed every minute.

Narration was not what I really wanted

How could the performance have been better?

I really wanted a narrator with more expression...I already had text to speech on my Kindle, and this wasn't much better. I also don't consider a podcast "professional" narration.

Any additional comments?

I am now trying to add a different narration to a different version of the book, and this one keeps being the default. Very frustrating.

Any additional comments?

I think I bought this book prior to my own cancer diagnosis, so it surprised me to hear the theme when I finally queued it up. I was prepared to have it be pretty raw...and it was...but John Green was so perceptive about the feelings of a cancer patient (young or old!) and the emotions they and their loved ones deal with every minute of every day, that it drew me in and kept me riveted. I loved that he could capture these young people, Hazel and Augustus, wise beyond their years, as they tried to make the best of a bad situation and even fall in love. I LOVED it, and will listen to it again.
