An epic tale about mother's love

The narration added greatly to this story of love and loss. A tale spanning Russia and USA and mother's and daughters. The story begins in Stalin's Russia and resolves years later in Alaska. Moving and enlightening.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story was quite interesting, but I found myself constantly distracted by the terrible narration. The narrator's voice was fine, but seriously?? Wasn't he one of the writers?? It is beyond me, why if that is indeed the case, he couldn't read his own sentences with the correct phrasing or emphasis on the phrasing.
This would have been far better if I had read it in a conventional form rather than listened.

The story was completely engaging, believable and memorable.

In emotion a little similar to "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly".

I was wishing for another narrator! She was fine as Alice's voice, that in fairness is much of the book. However, it was very difficult to determine changes of character.

Yes! I am looking forward to listening to it with my husband and then discussing.

I found it reaffirming that I was able to be reminded of the BEST in human nature.
