A Great Pre Apocolapse Road Novel
Revisado: 06-30-22
Following a really chill Big Lebowski type protagonist, if the big Lebowski had sometimes commited murder or kidnapping and such. The language is artful, keeps within the confines of the voice or the character. Highly recommend.

A strange near future sci fi myatery novel.
Revisado: 06-01-22
It might not be my normal cup of tea, and I doubt a 50 plus white male reader is the demographic they were expecting, but I felt the premise and a few world building aspects of this story were excellent. I mostly lile a near future post apocolypse story that was optomistic. We survive a near end of the world in the near future. That was refreshing. Loved the tone and consiatancy of voice, there was all that internal identity conflict the regualr audience ans likely the author craves but annoys me but it didnt detract from the action and furthered character developement instead of being trite drivle. great job. will correct spelling on my computer when I get home.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

whiny and endlessly self absorbed
Revisado: 01-26-22
yup. whiny. I would be cute and say there is only a tempest in a teapot for conflict but that might giving this more dramatic tension then it deserves. it is a contrived future where self reflection and melodrama are professions. Yes it I gave it three because I recognize it is well written and I am not its intended audience but I suscribe to a universal 3 Cs for stories. Character and in this I was more emotionally invested in the robot. Conflict which was all internal and unappealing. Consequesces of which there were none. i do not reccomend.

Historia
The day Fatima forgot her name, Death paid a visit. From hereon in she would be known as Sankofa - a name that meant nothing to anyone but her, the only tie to her family and her past. Her touch is death, and with a glance a town can fall. And she walks - alone, except for her fox companion - searching for the object that came from the sky and gave itself to her when the meteors fell and when she was yet unchanged; searching for answers.

Historia
In Wisdom, Shelter. That’s the official motto of the Scholomance. I suppose you could even argue that it’s true—only the wisdom is hard to come by, so the shelter’s scant. Our beloved school does its best to devour all its students—but now that I’ve reached my senior year and have actually won myself a handful of allies, it’s suddenly developed a particular craving for me. Even if I somehow make it through the endless waves of maleficaria that it keeps throwing at me, I haven’t any idea how my allies and I are going to make it through the graduation hall alive.

this is so much more than a post apocalypse sf horror tale set in a native american community. this is the story of this native community which is so beautifully told, so richly laid out you were rooting for the survival of their culture. well done. such an enjoyable read and listen.

Great Story Telling, but, NOT WOKE
Revisado: 07-15-21
I read this as I read Tarzan for historical genre background. I enjoyed both but, massive trigger warning here this was written for white males in the early 20th century. Knowing that, in craft or driving narratives and in some scene setting worth it for me.

Ella has a Thing. She sees a classmate grow up to become a caring nurse. A neighbor's son murdered in a drive-by shooting. Things that haven't happened yet. Kev, born while Los Angeles burned around them, wants to protect his sister from a power that could destroy her. But when Kev is incarcerated, Ella must decide what it means to watch her brother suffer while holding the ability to wreck cities in her hands. Rooted in the hope that can live in anger, Riot Baby is as much an intimate family story as a global dystopian narrative.

packed, dense, poignant
Revisado: 04-09-21
I read this because I saw it on the 2021 Nebula Nominees for Novella along side one of.my favorite books Ring Shout. i am thoroughly impressed. This story reads quick with details, with major and minor historical details, details full of emotional weight. The novella is heavy in the hippie sense, while the story is not complicated, the world which is our world is complex. This is what Urban Fantasy should be where the world building is more research than invention. This is a great novella period, but for what it adds to the genre of speculative fiction and urban fantasy i would say it should not be missed.

Cheated
Revisado: 04-05-21
I have rarely been as disappointed with a series as I was with this one. Where it showed promise, characters I liked and admired, villains I despised and feared, it threw all of that away on a cheap.time travel alternate world ending that made my emotional investments moot. I cannot recommend this book to anyone.
