Historia
In many ways, we’re more comfortable than ever before. But could our sheltered, temperature-controlled, overfed, underchallenged lives actually be the leading cause of many our most urgent physical and mental health issues? In this gripping investigation, award-winning journalist Michael Easter seeks out off-the-grid visionaries, disruptive genius researchers, and mind-body conditioning trailblazers who are unlocking the life-enhancing secrets of a counterintuitive solution: discomfort.

Prescribing necessary discomfort in a modern world to thrive
Revisado: 07-22-23
Physical discomfort of cold, carrying heavy things, being hungry before eating, are refreshingly revolutionary & supported by current and robust evidence in this book. Right now I own a business with 30 employees, caring for my partner with ALS and realizing that I am living a mental misogi. I hunger for a physical demand where my mind is silenced and am only a body, working hard. It feels balanced during this time that is both deeply sad and unwelcome, woven together with carpe diem, so much love and making of memories every day. By its very nature our now is horribly uncomfortable and unfamiliar. And in our daily living with grief and making the most of every day, taking a cold shower isn’t harder than that.
Physically carrying a heavy backpack on my walks is not harder than the emotional
weight we are carrying, and the symbolism of commensurate physical weight feels like it provides a kinesthetic and symbolic sense of our emotional load. I think gyms are silly- not for others, just doesn’t fit me. I’d rather do something functional and not requiring spandex, cuteness and mirrors.
This was a meaningful book for me at a meaningful time.

For generations, we’ve been taught there are two ways to succeed - either from talent or practice. In Decoding Greatness, award-winning social psychologist Ron Friedman illuminates a powerful third path - one that has quietly launched icons in a wide range of fields, from artists, writers, and chefs, to athletes, inventors, and entrepreneurs: reverse engineering.

Pattern recognition and unpacking great ideas are super powers
Revisado: 07-07-21
Admittedly I read this with others who found it dry and hard to get into. The concept of pattern recognition and living between ability and vision spoke to me powerfully. The author is passionate about the topic and his enthusiasm shines through. This is a brilliant how to book when it comes to personal growth and those who are driven to deep dive into ideas. It was a delicious and fascinating read.
